Post Title / Heritage Skills Co-ordinator
Salary / £21,000 p.a. pro rata
Hours / 1 day per week (3 year contract)
Location / The position will mainly be based at Stanwick Lakes, with the possibility of occasional work in locations across the project area as required.
Reports to / Project and Community Heritage Manager
Purpose of post / To deliver a range of heritage skills activities for the ‘Settlers of the Nene Valley’ project, working withteam members, contractors and volunteers.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1. To work with communities, groups and individuals from across the project area to raisetheir understanding of, and interest in, theirlocal heritage and traditional crafts.

2. To have a hands-on role in the construction of a ‘multi era’ building at Stanwick Lakes working with volunteers, local community groups etc. Providing practical training and experience for groups who wish to learn about, and develop skills in, traditional building techniques such as timber framing, brick making, wattle and daubing, brick and mosaic flooring etc.

Working with the Project and Community Heritage Manager and other project team members to engage and inform the public and ensure the successful completion of the build.

3. To develop, lead, or support, various ‘have a go’ traditional craft sessions that demonstrate a variety of the skills/crafts that the settlers would have used/created over the last 4000years.

4. To monitor and evaluate the project’s heritage skills activities.

5. To ensure that reasonable care is taken at all times for the health, safety and welfare of yourself and other persons, and to comply with Trust policies and procedures relating to health and safety.

6. Demonstrate awareness/understanding of equal opportunities and other people’s behavioural, physical, social and welfare needs.

7. To carry out any other duties which fall within the broad spirit, scope and purpose of this job description.

To develop and deliver a range traditional craft sessions for a wide range of groups and organisations.
ATTRIBUTES / ESSENTIAL CRITERIA / DESIRABLE CRITERIA
Education and Qualifications / A Level/ NVQ Level 3/ or equivalent / Degree/ NVQ Level 4 or higher/ HND
Experience and Knowledge / Previous experience of project work in a similar field.
Practical experience and knowledge of traditional crafts and trades.
Experience of training adult groups in traditional skills and/or building techniques.
An understanding of the role and relevance that heritage has for today’s communities. / Broad awareness of the heritage of the project area.
Previous experience of working in a heritage focused or community project
Ability and Skills / Ability to use Microsoft Office, Excel
An attention to detail when planning & delivering work
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Able to effectively organise, train and deliver a range of heritage activities with groups
Enthusiastic & self-motivated
Ability to manage their own programme of work
Excellent practical skills with the knowledge of how to use traditional and modern tools. / Good planning and problem solving skills
Experience of working on a SSSI, SPA and RAMSAR site.
Other requirements / Use of a car & able to work across the project area, including some weekends and evenings.
