Robert C. Altman Educational Excellence Award

Eligibility

All full-time and regular part-time NTC faculty members who plan to continue their employment with the college and have been active employees of NTC for a period of five years or more, including the present year, are eligible for this award. Eligible faculty members include counselors and all teaching faculty throughout the district, including regional campuses, business and industry sites, job centers, etc. Individuals may receive this award only once.

One individual will be recognized at the Spring Commencement and will be presented with an award and a $1000 credit to be used for future professional development expenses. A brief description of the professional development activity attended must be provided to the NTC Foundation. A picture of the recipient will be taken by a local photographer at the expense of the Altman account and will be permanently displayed in the Hoyt Student Center at NTC's Wausau Campus.

Criteria

The criteria listed below will be used to rate nominees for the Robert C. Altman Educational Excellence Award. Each criterion must be addressed either in nomination letters or in the personal data summary. Bulleted items are points that should be addressed as part of the main criteria.

Note: because of the wide variety of teaching and counseling assignments throughout the College, nominees may not fit all criteria equally.

Robert C. Altman Educational Excellence Award Criteria

Criteria

_____1.  Facilitator of Learning (30 points)

·  Utilization of current technology in learning opportunities

·  Innovative instructional techniques

·  Positive role model for students and staff

·  Caring, supportive relationship with students

·  Adapting to individual needs of students

·  Assisting students with effective career direction

·  Knowledgeable and current in field(s) of study

_____2.  Involvement Outside the Classroom (6 points)

·  Leadership provided for student activities

·  Professional growth activities related to new technologies & innovative instructional techniques.

·  Leadership activities within NTC

·  State and/or national leadership activities

·  Community and business/industry involvement

_____3.  Professional Credentials (4 points)

·  Education Level (Baccalaureate/Masters)

·  Work related to discipline

·  Attendance at professional seminars and/or workshops

·  Previous recognition

_____4.  Nomination Package (10 points)

·  Specific accomplishments noted

·  Clear and concise (500 words or less each letter)

·  Diverseness of support letters (support letters should represent a cross section of the College and/or community)

o  MUST include 1 letter of support from the nominee’s supervisor

·  Timeliness of accomplishments (within the last few years)

·  Overall quality of the nomination packet

Altman Award Nomination Process

Faculty members may be nominated by either NTC students or any NTC employees.

Note: The person being nominated must agree to be considered for this award.
The nominator is responsible for gathering the following materials which are to be included in the nomination packet:

Nomination Packet

ü  Nomination Title Page-included in packet

§  Must include signature of faculty member being nominated

ü  Resume/Personal Data Summary- provided by the faculty member being nominated.

The resume/personal data summary should include the following:

§  Other experience in educational institutions

§  Academic background (degrees, certification, etc.)

§  Work experience related to discipline (if applicable)

§  Professional growth activities

§  Application of new technology and innovative instructional techniques.

§  Leadership in NTC Student activities

§  Participation and leadership in activities within NTC

§  Membership and leadership in professional organizations

§  Community and business/industry involvement

§  Other contributions, activities, and/or projects related to your field(s).

ü  Letter of nomination- provided by person making the nomination
(500 word limit, at least 12 point font)

§  The letter of nomination should include specific accomplishments and avoid general statements such as “good customer service”.

ü  Three additional supportive letters of recommendation- provided by supervisor, students, alumni, faculty, or staff/500 word limit each letter, at least 12 point font).

Letters of recommendation must meet the following guidelines:

§  More than three support letters will not be accepted.

§  Letters should be from at least two of the categories listed and one MUST be from the nominee’s supervisor.

§  Letters should include specific accomplishments and avoid general statements such as “good customer service”
