Personal Statement
I have been serving on the ASP board for two terms. During that time, I have co-chaired the annual conference, been involved in re-evaluating the ASP Business Model, led the Non-Profit Center for Excellence First Monday Community of Practice, led the bylaws revision and now chair the Certification Operations Committee.I attained certification as a Strategic Management Professional (SMP) in 2011, awarded by ASP, a Certified Association Executive (CAE) in 1991, awarded by the American Society of Association Executives, an Associate in Risk Management (ARM) in 1991, awarded by the Insurance Institute of America, Certification Specialist in 2016, awarded by the Institute for Credentialing Excellence.
My consulting practice is focused on governance and leadership for non-profit boards of directors with a specialty practice in Policy Governance®, a systems approach to governance for organizations.
I have been consulting with boards in the non-profit world for the past 21 years, facilitating their capacity building as boards of directors and shaping the future of hundreds of non-profit organizations through strategic planning, facilitating difficult conversations, and facilitating deep change in the culture of the governing bodies. Additionally, for the last 21 years, I have personally been involved in the education of approximately 1/3 of the 4,000 Certified Association Executives around the world with teaching, writing study materials and designing the premier study program for that certification.
In 2014, I was asked by publisher Jossey-Bass and the American Society of Association Executives to be the editor for what is known as the textbook for the association profession, titled, “Professional Practices in Association Management”. The book was released in January 2015. My name is cited as the Executive Managing Editor of the publication.
While the ASP board is moving toward becoming more strategic, the board needs people who are willing to do, not just talk. My record with ASP demonstrates that I am a doer with a strategic vision, creating new possibilities within ASP.
