GPC GP TRAINEES SUBCOMMITTEE 2014-2016

INSTRUCTIONS FOR CANDIDATES

There are 11 regional constituencies on the GP Trainees subcommittee in which elections are taking place this year:

  • East Midlands
  • Kent, Surrey and Sussex
  • Lancashire (North West Deanery region of North West LETB)
  • London, North Central & East
  • London, South
  • Scotland, West
  • Scotland, South East / East
  • Severn
  • Thames Valley
  • Wales
  • Yorkshire

Each constituency is based on a single LETB/Deanery, with the exception ofLancashire – this constituency is based on the old North West Deanery boundaries.

The representatives for the 9 other constituencies have a year remaining of their term, so there will be no election held in 2014. These are:

  • Eastern
  • London, North West
  • Mersey (Mersey Deanery region of North West LETB)
  • North East
  • Northern Ireland
  • Peninsula (Peninsula Deanery region of South West LETB)
  • Scotland, North
  • Wessex
  • West Midlands

Successful candidates will be elected to serve for two full sessions; 2014/15 and 2015/16, unless the representative is set to qualify as a GP during the first session, in which case they will only serve for one session.

  1. To be eligible to stand, vote or nominate another in a constituency, you must be:
  • on a GP Training Programme at the time of nomination that will not finish before 24 September 2014, or;
  • have, at the date of nomination, a confirmed place on a GP Training Programme that will start between 27 June 2014 and 26 June 2015*. Candidates do not have to be BMA members.

*The dates of eligibility are based on the BMA’s year, which begins on 27 June 2014following the 2014 Annual Representative Meeting, and concludes at the end of the 2015 Annual Representative Meeting. The eligibility criteria have been designed to ensure that all Doctors on a GP Training Programme at some point during the BMA’s 2014-15 year are eligible to stand for this election.

  1. Section 1 of the nomination form should be completed by you. This includes a brief statement of experience which should avoid the use of little known abbreviations or acronyms.
  1. It is your responsibility as the candidate to ensure that all parts of the form are completed legibly. It is important to include contact details in case we have any queries about how the form has been completed. With this in mind, we would recommend that you submit your nomination form via email and save a copy of the completed nomination form.
  1. It is also your responsibility to return the completed nomination form by post, email or by hand, to the General Practitioners Committee, BMA House by the specified deadline of 5pm, Friday 18 July 2014. Forms received after that time will not be accepted. There have been occasions when forms have got lost in the post therefore we advise that you send your form by registered post or emailto avoid disappointment.
  1. You may also submit a 250 word statement in support of your candidature which will be circulated if there is a contested election in your constituency. The word limit will be strictly enforced, and statements of more than 250 words will be truncated.
