Summary Job Description:

The Durham Convention & Visitors Bureau (DCVB) is seeking a full-time Content Marketing & Research Specialisttowrite and coordinate marketing content as well as track and analyze metrics and researchto increase thevisibility and recognition of Durham as a visitor destination.Responsibilities includegathering and maintaining accurate information through industry research, conducting data analysis across multiple channels, accurately summarizing research findings for a variety of audiences, writing clear and compelling marketing copy for web and publications, and coordinating content and research calendars.

This job requires time management, critical thinking and problem-solving skills to complete assignments in a timely, precise manner.

The ideal candidate is familiar with Durham’s character and culture and hasa four-year degree in marketing, communications, journalism, statistics, or a related field, or equivalent work experience in a marketing environment. Targeted compensation is mid- to high-$30’s, depending on experience. EEOC.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Write and edit content for DCVB’s websites and printed collateral that is enticing to potential visitors and informative to identified target audiences, but is also on-brand, search-engine optimized, and follows established style guidelines.
  • Draft and update website and publication copy, links, and other content as needed through DCVB’s web-based content management system and other channels.
  • Analyze content performance across channels and identify shifts in development and distribution to improve performance of content marketing strategy.
  • Coordinate approvals and edit, proofread, and fact-check before posting/publishing.
  • Copy edit and adapt work by other Bureau writers for specific platforms.
  • Coordinate completion of marketing research projects, including the accumulation, organization, analysis, and publishing of tourism and convention industry data and statistics.
  • Participate in research projects that will benchmark and track DCVB’s performance compared to its peers, and stay current with secondary research related to industry trends to mine for application to Durham.
  • Coordinate the writing and distribution of research related publications, as well as contributing to research elements of annual reports, marketing plans, market profile analysis, and other marketing intelligence and communication projects.
  • Organize data, including data entry, spreadsheet analysis, and creation and maintenance of graphs and charts,utilizing various software programs.
  • Gather, track, and analyze a variety of monthly and project-specific performance indicators, including feature attendance, project-related metrics, etc.
  • Establish and maintain the content marketing and research calendars.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and maintain ongoing editorial and research projects, monitoring and communicating completion against deadlines, applicability to established target markets, and performance against goals.
  • Work with marketing team members to coordinate editorial tie-ins with press releases, social media, and other related communications.
  • Assist VP Marketing with project and administrative duties as assigned.
  • Coordinatemeeting and scheduling logistics, including preparation andmeeting setup, compiling notes, following up on action items, etc.
  • Assist with tracking project progress, entering work orders and purchase orders, completing expense and budget reports, maintaining organized files, and otheradminduties.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of statistical analysis and research methodolgy, along with online survey tools and industry data sources.
  • Persuasive and clear English language writing skills with an understanding of multiple audiences and application of brand voice across a variety of platforms.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Experience using SEO- and reader-friendly writing techniques for both web and publications.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Excellent copy editing and proofreading skills and understanding of standard style guidelines.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Highly organized, extremely detail-oriented, and able to multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment with competing priorities.
  • Ability to follow projects to completion, keeping track of multiple projects in multiple stages at the same time, and gathering necessary materials and approvals from stakeholders.
  • Advanced computer skills using Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and internet applications on a PC/Windows-based platform.
  • Initiative to solve problems with energy and a positive attitude.
  • Durham residency and familiarity with Durham as a visitor destination is preferred.

The Durham Convention & Visitors Bureau (DCVB) is a local tourism development authority chartered by state and local government in cooperation with the private sector to attract and serve visitors to the City and County of Durham by reinvesting a portion of the visitor-paid “room occupancy and tourism development tax” in promotion and marketing to fuel the local business climate and expand the tax base.
