2010 Summer Reading Program
Who will be selected as the state reader leaders?
Seven schools will be recognized for reporting the most number of minutes read statewide.
-Three schools with enrollment of 750 or below: one elementary school, one middle school, one high school
-Three schools with enrollment of 751 or above: one elementary school, one middle school, one high school
-One school with non-traditional grade bands (e.g. K-2, K-4, K-8, K-12, 11-12)
Each of these schools will receive a certificate for books from The Reading Warehouse, Follett Library Resources,and Mackin Educational Resources, and they will receive a selection of books from SCDE School Library Media Services.The principal and library media specialist from each of these schools will receive a complimentary luncheon/banquet ticket and an invitation to the Awards Luncheon/Banquet of the South Carolina Association of School Librarians (SCASL) at the conference in March 2011.
Individual recognition:
-3 students statewide will be recognized for reading the most number of minutes: one elementary student, one middle school student, one high school student
-3 faculty/staff members statewide will be recognized for reading the most number of minutes: one elementary school faculty/staff member, one middle school faculty/staff member, one high school faculty/staff member
-3 library media specialists statewide will be recognized for having the highest percentage of their student enrollment participating: one elementary media specialist, one middle school media specialist, one high schoolmedia specialist
Each of these individuals will receive a selection of books from SCDE School Library Media Services, a gift certificate from The Reading Warehouse,and a certificate for books from Follett Library Resources. Each student and one parent will receive a complimentary luncheon/banquet ticket and an invitation to the Awards Luncheon/Banquet at the SCASL conference in March 2011. The district(s) with a highest percentage of participating schools will be recognized with a Certificate of Participation.
Who is eligible to participate?
Students entering Kindergarten in 2010-2011 are eligible to participate. They should take their reading logs to the media specialist at their school.
Students moving from elementary school to middle school should take their reading logs to their media specialist at the middle school.
Students moving from middle school to high school should take their reading logs to their media specialistat the high school.
Students who graduated at the end of the 2009-2010 school year are not eligible to participate unless they return as school employees.
All certified personnel are eligible to participate for the school where they are employed.
All classified personnel are eligible to participate for the school where they are employed.
