NHS GREATER GLASGOW AND CLYDE STATEMENT

ON FIVE NEW HUB CENTRES

A total of approximately £55 million will see five new health centres being built across Greater Glasgow and Clyde through the innovative hub initiative which brings together public bodies to ensure better public building and enhanced services at improved value for money to the taxpayer.

New Eastwood Health and Care Centre received planning permission approval in October 2013 and is due to receive Full Business Case approval this March. The development of a new Eastwood Health and Care Centre at Drumby Crescent in Clarkston offers a great opportunity for further integration of health and care along with wider council and third sector services in line with national policy.

The development of a new building gives us the opportunity to provide modernised health and social care facilities replacing a number of Community Health and Care Partnership and GP premises that are not fit for purpose. The new centre will accommodate a number of services and staff groups including GPs, physiotherapy, podiatry, adult and older people’s mental health, children and family services, social work, district nurses and allied health professionals. £14.5m.

New East Pollokshields Health and Care Centrereceived approval in 2013 and includes accommodation for two GP practices (replacing their current surgery premises), health visitors, district nursing, other visiting health clinicians, health improvement (replacing the Health Shop in Shields Road), and local social work services (replacing the social work office in McCulloch Street). The new facility, to be called the Shields Centre, will be built on part of the old blaze pitch in McCulloch Street near the Community Centre, and is due to start on site in March and complete before the end of the year. £2.7m.

New Woodside Health CentreIs expected to see its first patient in 2016. Site investigations are currently taking place on the proposed site for the new Centre at and these will determine the ground conditions and help inform the design of the building.

All the services currently in the existing health centre plan to move to the new site. In addition it will provide Specialist Children’s Services, Community Addictions Services and a new day care centre for older people (to be operated by Glasgow City Council). £12.3m.

New Maryhill Health Centre is progressing well with the Full Business Case due to be submitted to the Scottish Government at the end March 2014. £12m.

New Gorbals Health and Care Centre is due to receive Outline Business Case approval later this year. The new centre will includeGPs, treatment room services, dental services, physiotherapy, podiatry, district nursing, health visiting, community paediatrics and child and adolescent mental health services, community addictions services andsocial work services.

The new facility is to be built on part of the site previously occupied by the Sandiefield Road flats, and is due to be completed in 2016. £13m
