The Brunell Family Foundation began in 1997 while Mark was playing for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Two years earlier, Mark and Stacy’s oldest son Jacob was hospitalized at Wolfson Children’s Hopsital after being diagnosed with a respiratory infection when he was six weeks old. Fortunately, Jacob received quality medical care and is now a healthy active young man. This experience motivated the Brunells to establish a foundation to benefit critically ill children and their families.
Michael D. Aubin, hospital president, Wolfson Children’s Hospital, "Through the Brunell Family Foundation, Mark and his wife, Stacy, have been active supporters of Wolfson Children's Hospital for over a decade. In addition to their generous financial gifts, the Brunells have also made frequent visits to the hospital, showing their huge personal investment improving the lives of children and their families. We are so grateful to have their support in our community."
Since 1997, the Brunell Family Foundation has raised more than $1 million for charity, many of them here in the Jacksonville area, including Wolfson Children’s Hospital, the Ronald McDonald House of Jacksonville, and Dreams Come True. While the Brunells lived in the D.C. area, the foundation was very active as well supporting of numerous charitable organizations. The Brunell Family now lives in Jacksonville, where Mark coaches the Episcopal High School football team.
Mark played 19 seasons in the NFL and ranks as one of top NFL quarterbacks with over 32,000 passing yards. He spent nine years as a Jacksonville Jaguar where he earned three Pro Bowl appearances. Mark has also played quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, Washington Redskins, New York Jets, and won the Super Bowl with the New Orleans Saints in 2009.
