AUTHOR AND PASTOR LAUNCHES A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO COMMUNITY CRIME FIGHTING

Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada – February, 2011– Don’t expect a caped crusader from Gotham City to come to your rescue. Gerry Leet, however, is a superhero in his own right. He has worked in the sewers of humanity and emerged victorious in his fight against the power of evil. Now he has embarked on a battleagainst the rising problems of crime and deviance in the city of Halifax and beyond. But Leet will not be alonein the fight against crimeand social injustices. He is actively looking for partners: community partners who will work together to reduce criminal activity because “it takes the entire village to prevent crime”.

strategic plan For communitycrime Prevention

Gerry Leet isintroducing a strategic plan to reduce crime and address serious social issues. Communities are in dire need of a holistic plan. His plan calls for partnerships with various stakeholders in community. The plan supports public safety in every community by recognizing and engaging the social conditions that cause crime. Leet plansto collaborate with interested parties and citizens to introduce programs that will address and impact the core issues of crime. Community groups, churches and citizens are encouraged to participate in helping and consoling the victims of crime, mentoring youth or persons at risk and offenders towards a new and responsible life. Organizations, including churches, must become a social agent for change and provide guidance and positive role models.

Holistic Approach

Gerry Leet is a life coach, speaker, author and pastor with a background in criminology, sociology and psychology and a previous career as a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Leet encountered crime and criminal behaviour routinely as an RCMP officer. The difference is that Leet haspaid the high price for breaking the law ashis family life, career, community, relationshipsand respectability have been devastated.Hispersonal fall from grace made Leet examine the root source or the underlying factor behind the conditions that cause social instability and criminal activity. The holistic approach that involves the whole community, together withLeet’straining in law enforcement and his devotion to the one social issue that he has considerable experience in,bodes well for the project. The twist is the spiritual solutionsLeet advocates to the complexities of crime.

The Missing Link In Crime Prevention

Leet concurs with others that government or other agencies cannot legislate or incarcerate society’s way out of the complex problems of crime. The deterioration of the family unit, which is the basic building block of society, and the rise in violent crime are both chronic symptoms of the spiritual void in the life of the community and the personal lives of its residents. Post-modern societyis oblivious to the struggle between holiness and the forces of evil, a reality that must not be ignored. Leet is convinced that the invisible spiritual struggle between evil and good explains many hidden conditionsof criminal activity, deviant human behaviour and social instability that numerous wide-ranging and comprehensive government, public and private studieshave identified: drug addiction, economic stress, poverty, rising divorce rates, and poor choices. Leet identifies this as the “Missing Link” in crime prevention. It adds a spiritual perspective to the worldly fight against crime. Nevertheless, the discovery of this “inconvenient truth” must not be ignored if crime is to be fought successfully from all angles.

invitation and challenge to Community Groups
WhenLeet compared and examined the reasons for his own poor choices in life with the problem of social instability and criminal activity in society; he uncovered the root cause behind all these problems. His passion is to work in partnership with communities, grassroots organizations, and private and public sectors to implement crime reduction strategies that he has developed. He challenges community stakeholders to take advantage of his discoveries and strategic plan to reduce crime.Leet calls groupsinto a crime-fighting partnership.
