My challenge for the year -

That every lion ask one (1) to join lions

That every club’s membership be +1 at 30 June 2017

That every club is represented at District Convention

That every club support LCIF by way of a donation no matter how small

That all clubs participate or conduct Lions Information Forums

Notes from recent Cabinet Meeting -

ALF Application for membership - if your club has not completed the form please do so and return to ALF urgently

Recycle for Sight - bring your collection of used eye glasses to District Convention; also used postage stamps - these are auctioned and proceeds to Australian Lions Children’s Mobility Foundation.

A number of our projects are in need of funding to be able to continue their work - Youth Insearch and Lions inPlace (LEAC) and there are others - please consider these District Projects when distributing funds.

Clubs should be contacting schools and encourage them to participate in the Peace Poster Competition and Youth of the Year. The information is available on the Lions International web site. Or contact District Chairman, Frank Douglas

Clubs should have received a package with information about Lions Christmas Cakes. Please complete and return your Lions Christmas Cake club information form to District Chairman Dawn Hebblewhite. Order your cakes and puddings early. Cut off date for payment for all cakes and pudding 15 January 2017.

Lions Medical Research Personality Quest - clubs are asked to consider inviting a lady to be an entrant in this Quest, or at least every Zone have an entrant. District Chairman Lorraine Trigg is ready to assist any club or zone with ideas.

Please contact Rod Layt should your club need the Promotional Trailer. It is there for the use of every club in our District to promote Lions.

Below is an extract from a message from International President Chancellor Bob Corlew and I ask that you all consider his words and request.

Dear Lions of the World,

Paris, France; Brussels, Belgium; Orlando, Florida, USA; Dallas, Texas, USA; Istanbul, Turkey; Dhaka, Bangladesh; Nice, France; racial tension in many parts of the world.

Why is it happening? When will it stop? How much is enough? These are questions all of us are asking ourselves, and no one is providing any answers.

In my inaugural address delivered June 28 in Fukuoka, Japan, I spoke the following words:

"As we look at our future, there is another new large mountain which is arising for our world to conquer, and Lions International is the one to help the world climb this new mountain – and that is international relations. The Lions of the world are one family, focused on the goal of providing for others, and creating peace and understanding among the people of the world. We must strive to leave a legacy of world peace, world health, world safety, and world happiness."

In that spirit, and as we approach our 100th year of humanitarian service, I ask Lions around the world to hold a day of reflection during the week of July 25th. Set aside this day to reflect on how your club can work with local community leaders to nurture peace, lessen violence that has affected so many of our communities, and foster understanding among all peoples.

As we pause to reflect, please keep the victims and families of the recent tragedy in Nice, France in your thoughts and prayers

Let us be the example of how people of different races, cultures, religions and diverse backgrounds can come together for a common cause.

Please ASK if you have any issues to resolve, there will always be someone able to assist.

Till next time

DG Jan
