SAC Meeting Minutes
New River Middle School

- Meeting Open
- 4:33 p.m. the meeting is called to order by Ms. Gayle and seconded by Ms. Reep. Review of minutes. Motion to approve made by Ms. McDonald and seconded by Ms. Frazier.
- Title 1 Update:
- Ms. Bennett discussed the Parent Involvement Plan and the School Compact. Ms. Bennett asked if there was any input from stakeholders to make any changes to either of these documents. There was no input to make any changes to these documents. Ms. Bennett stated that the documents have been approved as is. Ms. Bennett also stated that there will be a Title 1 Parent Survey offered online on our website. There will also be hard copies available in the front office. The survey will be available in several languages, including Spanish and Creole.
- Student President Update:
- KathrynTreacy and David Miralda: Student government has donated $300 to Honor Flight (a county-wide project to send World War II Veterans to the memorial in Washington D.C.) and some funds to Real Men Read and $50 to Joe Dimaggio Children’s hospital.
- Parent Update:
- Ms. Hershewe expressed concerns about the time she is getting calls from Parent Link. She stated that she is getting the calls too late in the day. Mr. Kelly will look into why the calls are being made so late.
- Principal’s Report
- New River was chosen as a school to look at model classrooms and student engagement. Thirty Five visitors will come to observe on March 7.
- FSA Writing was on Tuesday. There were a few computer glitches, but other than that it went smoothly. 6th and 7th grade were paper/pencil and 8th grade used the computer.
- Saturday, March 4, is the water way clean up. Two of our students won the water way essay contest and one won the art contest .
- One of our students won the county science fair competition and goes on to compete for the State.
- FSA camp continues this Saturday.
- By the end of year, we should have our new marquee. We will also receive an outdoor classroom and a new audio visual board for morning announcements.
- At the next SAC meeting, April 6, the district will present what renovations will be done. The start of construction will not be before next summer.
- On March 9, our board member, Heather Brinkworth, will be at Stranahan High School.
