Below are just some of our class’ favorite coffee spots…

TAKING THE PUBLIC BUS

The New Orleans bus system is run by the Regional Transit Authority – All of the buses are new since Hurricane Katrina, and include a fleet of over 80 buses that serve 32 different routes. The standard 1-way fare between any two stops is $1.25. Most bus lines operate from 5:30 a.m. to 1 or 2 a.m, depending on the line. Buses at the beginning of the day come every 10 minutes and begin to run every 15, 30, and 60 minutes towards the evening/early morning hours. Consult the website for a full list of all of the lines and their schedules. The line that drops you off closest to school is Claiborne Line 16

TAKING THE STREETCAR

There are three streetcar lines, also run by the Regional Transit Authority (website above). The three lines are the St. Charles Ave. line, the Canal Street line, and the Riverfront line for a total of 66 street cards covering 13 miles of track. The standard 1-way fare between any two stops is $1.25. The St. Charles line runs all the way from Jefferson Ave. and St. Charles, through the Garden District, through the CBD/Warehouse District, all the way to Canal St. and St. Charles. The Canal Street line runs the entire length of Canal from the cemeteries at Metairie Road to the river. The Riverfront line runs along the river through the CBD and into the French Quarter up to Esplanade Avenue. Most lines run every 5-10 minutes 24 hours a day.
