New Honors Course Enrollment Steps

REVIEW the list of Fall 2015 Honors classes to pick your Honors class. The lists are available on both the Honors Web page and the Honors Canvas course. Build your schedule around your Honors class choice. Be sure to register for the Honors section, not the regular course section. All Presidents' Scholars need to enroll in a minimum of 12 credit hours. Honors Achievement Scholars funding is based on the total number of credits enrolled at the end of the semester with a minimum of 6 credits to receive any funding.

REGISTER EARLY FOR HONORS: See an Advisor (Honors Advisor or any Advisor) for permission to enroll in Honors Only and Honors Option classes. Because Honors Option courses are limited to 4 honors students, we recommend you select a class early. There are limited seats. Get permission from an advisor to enroll in that Honors class first and build your schedule around that class. Select the exact prefix, course number, and section from the Honors list. That class will then be designated automatically in your schedule as Honors Taken. If you meet with an advisor, and select and register for a class from the list, there is no need to do a Designation Form.

HONORS DESIGNATION FORM: If you have a need to make a special request for a course that is NOT on the Honors Only or Honors Option list (unusual program of study, your last semester in Honors, etc.), go to the Honors Web page and click on the link titled Honors Designation Form to make a request. Please list your 1st and 2nd preferences on the form (Please don't list the same class/course number twice). You should be listing 2 different classes, because of your program of study special needs, for which you have already registered that are not on the specific lists published for continuing students. If there is a section of the class you need on the all honors or honors option list, your request will be denied! Enroll in that section rather than making a special request. Provide a reason for your special request or it will be denied. Incomplete designation forms will not be processed! IMPORTANT: Make sure you are registered for ALL of your classes before you submit your online request for Honors. Special requests cannot be guaranteed. All special requests must be submitted through the Honors Program. Do NOT approach the instructor.

CHECK your tuition balance. Your tuition for your classes and fees will be deferred until a few weeks after the semester begins. Presidents’ Scholars, if you owe more than $1,275.00 in tuition & fees, YOU must pay the overage before the semester begins or risk being dropped from your classes. If you owe less than $1,275, you will receive a refund from the college financial aid office a few weeks after classes begin. Visit my.maricopa.edu frequently. Honor Achievement students must pay their tuition. They will be reimbursed the partial stipend after the completion of the Honors class and other classes in which they were enrolled.

REMEMBER: To graduate with special honors distinction you need to complete a total of 15 honors credits and earn a minimum cum gpa of 3.5. A 3rd or 4th semester Presidents' Scholar should consider enrolling in 2 honors classes, if you haven’t done so, if you want to graduate with Honors distinction.

Also, if you are also taking classes at another college next semester you need to complete a Consortium Agreement so that both colleges are aware of how many total credits you are taking. This is a Financial Aid department procedure, so be sure you talk to them for guidance. The form is available at Financial Aid.
