New FREE Crochet Pattern: Newborn Wide Strap Baby Booties (perfect for boys and even girls)

I know it seems like I’m a little baby boot obsessed lately, but winter is coming and nothing is cuter than a little baby in some super cute boots, right? After I finished working onmy first pair of wrap around boots, I decided they were really more geared to little girls, so I figured I really need to come up with a pair that is perfect for little boys as well. So I started on these yesterday, and they are really easy to make. I only have Newborn – 3 months complete for the time being.
After my last pattern, I got to see how difficult it was when you do several different sizes. I was in such a rush to get size differences to my readers that I made lots of errors. So this time, I will be doing a couple different sizes, but I’m really going to take my time and work each pair a couple times before I post them. Anyway, I hope you enjoy.
Infant Wide Strap Double Button Baby Booties
Size:
For size Newborn – 3 months with finished size measuring 3.25″ unstretched and will fit up to about 3.75″ size about size (0-1.5)
Materials:
- Size E Crochet Hook
- Stitch Marker (optional but helps)
- Yarn needled to weave in ends and sew on buttons
- Worsted Weight Yarn (Red Heart in Charcoal was used with the boots in the pictures)
- 4 Small Buttons
Guage:
4 ch = 1 inch / 4 rows sc = 1 inch
Stitches:
Ch-chain
Sc-single crochet
Hdc-half double crochet
Sc2tog-single crochet 2 together
Hdc2tog-half double crochet 2 together
Slst-slip stitch
Instructions:
Chain 10
Round 1: 2sc into 2nd ch from hook.Sc in next 5 st.Hdc in next 2.8Dc in last ch. Working on other side, hdc in next 2, sc in next 5, 2 sc in last stitch where beginning 2 sc are. Don’t join. ( 26st total)
Round 2: 2 sc in 1st st from last row and in next stitch.Sc 8, 2hdc in each of the next 6 stitches. Sc 8, 2 sc in last 2 stitches. Don’t join – (36 stitches total)
Round 3: Sc in next 2 stitches, 2 sc in next.Sc 11, 2sc in next 2 stitches, sc in next 4, 2 sc in next 2 stitches.Sc 11, 2sc in next.Sc in last 2 stitches. Join ( 42 stitches)
Round 4: Working in the blo, sc in each stitch around. Don’t join(42)
Round 5: Repeat round 4 – Join with 1st sc. Ch1 (42 stitches)
Round 6: In blo, hdc in each stitch around join (42)
Round 7: Sc 1, sc2tog, sc 7, hdc in next, hdc2tog 10 times, hdc in next, sc 7, sc2tog, sc in last.Join, ch1. (30 st)
Round 8: Sc 10, hdc2tog FIVE times. Sc 10. Join and ch1 (25)
Round 9: Sc 10, hdc2tog THREE times, sc 9. Join, fasten off. (22)
IMPORTANT: This may get a little confusing how I start the cuffs. But I promise it’s not difficult. For the right shoe, I’ll be attaching the strap beginning to the shoe in the stitch that is marked. The left shoe will be worked exactly the same but you will attach your chain/sc piece to start on the opposite side. I’m providing pictures to help you understand what I’m talking about.
Starting a separate piece, ch15.Sc in 2nd chain from hook and remaining 13 ch.(14sc total).
Round 10: With the ch/sc piece still on your hook, (for theRIGHT cuffyou are going to insert your hook in the stitch with the stitch marker in the photo above. For theLEFT cuffit will attach to the opposite side It will be the stitch before the first hdc2tog of the last round) Work a sc in that stitch and in each of the next 20 st. Ch1, turn. (35 sc total) You won’t join these rounds, as you’ll be working in rows for the cuff. It will look like this….
Round 11: Sc 32, ch2 and skip 2 st (button hole), sc in last stitch. Ch1, turn. (35 stitches)
Round 12: Sc in each stitch around. Ch1, turn. (35 total)
Round 13: Repeat round 12.
Round 14: Sc in first stitch, ch2 and skip 2, sc in remaining stitches aroun. Ch1 and turn. (35 stitches)
Round 15: Sc in each stitch around. Finish off and weave in ends.

Hello, I may make this up in bigger sizes eventually, but right now it’s going to be nearly impossible until after the holidays :). However, you can maybe follow the other bootie pattern that I have in several sizes, and just make the strap higher instead of working the shell stitch bordering. You can find the pattern here for up to 18 months a size 8/10 for a toddler size here for stopping by, hope that helps a little.

Okay so quick question i have madr about 3 of these now everything comes out perfect besides the fact that. there is a hole for the top where toes would be everytime. I must be skipping a step or spmething I think it is when it sayd “Working on other side” what exactleyfoes that mean I would much appreciate.it! Thanks : )

Hello, are you talking about the “working on other side” in round 1? If so, all that means is that you just worked up the first side of the shoe, and now you are simply going to work back down the other side of the initial chains. Does that help any

Thats what i thought. No it doesntlol because thats what i had done the first time and they came out with the opening of the top of foot thats why i thought that, that was what i was doing wrong. I have tried and tried again today still same thing Ilove these lil boot booties and are teying to make them for a friend so i suppose i will keep trying! : )

Love these booties and I think I am going to try making them. Quick question – when I had my son, I noticed that socks or booties that didn’t tie didn’t stay on very well. Do you know if the button serves that purpose well with these? Have you had any feedback about that? Thanks again! Great pattern!

I haven’t had any feedback as far as that goes. I made these in a way though, that keeps the opening as small as possible, just for that reason. I’m sure the strap helps with that as well. Just depends on the baby’s foot I suppose.
