New Energy Efficient Transformers Reduce Monthly Utility Bills

Franklin, Wisc. (09/01/00)Jefferson Electric introduces a new line of Energy Star rated transformers to meet government regulations for increased efficiency by reducing core losses. These general purpose, three-phase units are offered in sizes ranging from 15 KVA to 300 KVA in the popular 480 volt primary and 208Y/120 volt secondary windings. The electrostatically-shielded units have a temperature rise of 150C with 220C insulation and meet the applicable UL, C-UL and CSA standards. A number of options are available, including voltage ratings, temperature rises, weathershields and mounting wall brackets.

Jefferson PowerSaver ultra efficiency dry-type transformers meet the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) TP-1 standards and comply with the Department of Energy guidelines as specified in the 1992 Energy Act, H.R. 776. Energy Star-rated transformers waste less energy, saving building owners and occupants money each month on energy bills while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Most transformers deliver about 95 percent of the electricity from a utility as usable power. The rest is lost in the transformation process, with users paying for the lost energy. Commercial and industrial buildings typically use several transformers to reduce the voltage supplied by utilities to meet the voltage requirements of building equipment, computers and lighting. Because transformers are constantly in use, even a small improvement in energy efficiency can pay big dividends over time. This presents building owners and occupants with opportunities to reduce monthly utility bills and help protect the environment.
