Volunteer Opportunities

New Arrival Grocery Shopper (Periodic)

Provide substantial support for refugee families who will soon be arriving by using money provided by World Relief to purchase their first week’s worth of groceries. This can be a great opportunity to learn more about international foods, as well as the opportunity to become familiar with some different grocery store options in the Quad Cities!

Apartment Setup (Periodic)

Be an instrumental part of preparing a warm welcome for a new refugee family! Spend time in the World Relief office pulling items from storage to be taken to the apartment and help the family by making beds, putting away dishes, etc. so that they can arrive at their new apartment to find a home rather than boxes!

Transportation Assistant (Periodic)

Your car can be an instrument of God! Assist newly-arrived refugees with transportation to such places as medical appointments, pharmacies, and jobs.

World Relief Office Support (Periodic)

Use the gifts and resources God has given you to help staff in our Moline office. This could include anything from welcoming refugees & immigrants to the office and assisting with furniture donations, to designing materials and writing. We would love to put your creativity to use!

English Tutor (1 hrs per week)

Help teach the basics of English to an adult refugee in his or her home twice a week, and become friends in the process!

Friendship Partner (2 hrs per week)

Loneliness is one of the greatest challenges refugees face in America and friendship is their most significant need. Friendship Partners help refugees learn about their local community, answer many questions refugees have when they arrive, and ultimately develop a reciprocal friendship.

Church Team Coordinator (Increased commitment at the beginning. Couple of hours per week for 6 months + )

Mobilize your church to assist refugee families, walking with them in friendship for their first months in the U.S. Help refugees through providing friendship, community orientation, transportation, medical education, employment assistance, English language practice, and financial literacy. Be a part of the story of the Church at work as you invest in the lives of refugees in your community!

Good Neighbor Kit Coordinator (One time opportunity)

Organize your family, friends, small group or church to gather household items that refugees need in their first apartment. Your group may also help set up the family’s apartment and experience the joy of greeting them at the airport as they first arrive to the U.S!

Collection Project Coordinator (One time opportunity)

Organize your family, friends, small group or church to gather needed items like school backpacks for refugee children, diapers & car seats for families with newborns, hygiene kits for newly-arrived families or singles, & gift cards to help with emergencies or unfulfilled needs.

Let us know if you think there are other ways you can serve. We’re always open to hearing new ideas!
