Old Drover Trees at Upper Broughton

TREES

I recently chaired a meeting of the Community Development Group where we scrutinised the provision of trees within the Borough. I have personally been concerned for a long time by the gradual loss of trees in the rural hedgerows. The committee were also concerned at the loss of urban trees through the concreting of front gardens, road widening and the fashion for decking and low maintenance amenity spaces. As trees are the lungs of the Borough, officers are preparing a report to consider the availability of trees, grant funding, land owner partnership and community participation.

PLANNING

If you have a planning application on which you would like to speak the Borough have issued guidance, but if you would like further help please contact me in the usual way. I will still be speaking on all controversial planning applications.

PUBLIC SPEAKING AT PLANNING COMMITTEE MEETINGS

(An extract from the Borough guidance which can be found on line at

)

What should I talk about when I speak to the Committee?

Firstly, it depends on whether you are the applicant, whether you are representing those that object or approve the application. All speakers must ensure that their statement only refers to planning-related issues, examples are detailed below –

The Committee can only take planning-related issues into account when making their decision. Therefore, you should ensure that your statement relates to:

Material planning considerations which may include:

• Overlooking / loss of privacy

• Design / effect on appearance of area

• Access, parking, traffic, road safety

• Trees / biodiversity / landscape / heritage

• Noise / disturbance

• Local or government policy / economic benefits

• Flooding issues

Matters which are not considered to be material planning considerations include:

• Loss of property value / loss of view

• Boundary / land ownership / neighbour disputes

• Impact on private drainage systems

• Inappropriate or personal comments

• Doubts as to integrity of applicant

• Breach of covenant

Please ensure that your statement does not contain any inappropriate comments, including those which are racist, sexist, xenophobic, defamatory, prejudiced or likely to cause offence. It should not be derogatory to the Council, or to any other party, or relate to matters the Council could consider to be confidential.

BROADBAND

If you are still having problems please contact me with your telephone number and post code.

Below is the latest information from NCC.

Want a faster speed? Upgrade your service

96% of premises of Nottinghamshire can now benefit from a superfast broadband service.

Please remember that to benefit from the faster speeds on offer from the fibre-optic cabling, you must upgrade your existing connection. If you don’t, you won’t benefit from the new speeds and all the other benefits on offer.

You can do this by either discussing the options with your existing Internet Service provider (ISP) or by reviewing the information on price comparison sites of which there are many.

Why not visit Nottinghamshire County Council‘Where and When’ checker.

GRENFELL TOWERS

I requested further assurance following the latest reports re cladding and received the following from officers. –

“Further to the recent Briefing Note issued by the Chief Executive on fire safety matters and Cllr Butlers response to a question at Full Council on 29 June I am pleased to confirm that we have now received a response from Metropolitan Housing. Metropolitan have provided assurance that none of their Rushcliffe housing stock has Aluminium Containing Material (ACM) cladding. This is the type of cladding that has been at the centre of the national testing activity for high-rise buildings following the Grenfell fire. In addition we have also received confirmation from our building contractor Farran’s that the external cladding panels used at the Arena meet the necessary building standards and also do not contain ACM”.

ROAD REPAIRS

Plans to improve the condition of the county’s roads are set to get a further boost from Thursday 20 July. Nottinghamshire County Council's Community and Place Committee have agreed an additional £1.27m funding to be spent on the County’s 1,500 miles of unclassified roads following feedback from Nottinghamshire residents. This is in addition to the £1m funding recently earmarked to repair potholes across the County’s network, bringing the total amount of additional funding for potholes in 2017/18 by the current NCC administration to £2.27m.

Currently the County Council spends around £2.5m a year on pothole repairs, which includes £1.17m from the Government's Pothole Fund, announced in December 2016. The County’s highways network is managed by Via East Midlands on behalf of the County Council. A detailed programme of where the repair and patching work will specifically take place until the end of March 2018is currently being reviewed and is due to be finalised in August 2017.

You can report a pothole on the County Council's website at

I got a very prompt response to concerns over Swabbs Lane at Owthorpe and joint lobbying by myself, County Councillors Neil Clarke & Richard Butler was very successful. If you have areas of concern in your parishes please let me, your Parish Council or your relevant County Councillor know.

Tennis

I am please to say I have been able to help through my Community Fund with the provision of an outdoor table tennis table situated at the Wharf in Hickling. It is proving a big attraction.

I have also been able to help with extending the playing time at Upper Broughton Tennis club by contributing to the cost of floodlights. All helping to keep residents healthy.

If you have any concerns or planning issues you wish to discuss you can contact me
