Neonatal Resuscitation Program

Our Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) courses feature a combination of small group skill sessions and simulation-based resuscitation practise. Course content focuses on knowledge application as well as both technical and team resuscitation skills. OurNRP instructors are a combination of nurses, physicians, respiratory therapists, and midwives with substantial newborn careexperience.

There are two versions of the Neonatal Resuscitation Program available through the Simulation and Outreach Program. There are Basic and Advanced courses available.

Basic Course / Advanced Course
The Basic course is intended for healthcare professionals who may be responsible for the resuscitation of newborns during the first few minutes of a resuscitation and who have access to support from advanced level providers within minutes.
The Basic course is appropriate for healthcare professionals who do not have advanced level NRP skills within their current scope of practice or current practice environment. / The Advanced course is intended for healthcare professionals who are members of any team that provides advanced interventions during newborn resuscitation, according to their role and scope of practice.
Course Content:
- Covers Lessons 1-4 & 9
- Includes: principles of resuscitation, initial steps of resuscitation, use of resuscitation devices, chest compressions, and ethics and care at the End of Life.

Basic Megacode Resuscitation / Course Content:
- Covers Lessons 1-9
- Includes all components of Basic course plus: endotracheal intubation, laryngeal mask airway insertion, umbilical venous cannulation, medication administration, special considerations, and resuscitation of preterm infants.
- Requires successful completion of an
Advanced Megacode Resuscitation
Prerequisite:
RM, RN, RPN, RRT, GRT, PCP, or Student-Medical/Midwifery/Nursing/Respiratory/
Paramedic / Prerequisite:
MD, RM, RN, RRT, GRT, ACP, or CCP

The NRP Provider card, issued by the Canadian Paediatric Society, will indicate which lessons and megacode were completed. All Providers are encouraged to read the entire NRP text.

The appropriate course registration fee must be paid at time of registration for all participants. A receipt will be issued on the day of the course for income tax or reimbursement purposes.

Course Materials

Please allow yourself adequate study time. The NRP Textbook, 6th Edition (with DVD) is for use by a single student and provides information needed before, during and after class.

Online Exam

Participants are required to take and pass an on-line examination (within 30 days prior). Proof of successful completion (verification of completion certificate) must be presented at the Provider course. Registration Policies

·  Substitutions are welcome. No additional fees will apply to substitutions.

·  For any withdrawal less than three weeks in advance of the course, a $75.00 administrative fee will be deducted from your registration fee.

·  Requests for transfer to an alternate course date can be made in advance of the course. For any transfer less than three weeks in advance of the course, a $50.00 administrative fee will apply and is payable at time of transfer. One transfer is permitted. Once the option to transfer has been exercised, the participant waives the option of requesting any refund.

·  No refunds or transfers will be given for “no shows”.
