ICCFWorld Cup 22
The tournamentwillbeplayedbywebserver. ICCF standard time control 10 moves in 40 dayswithduplicationafter 20 days is used; 45 daysleave per year, no special leave). Linearconditionalscanbeentered. Itwillbeorganized in three stages. Usuallyeachgroupconsists of 11-13 players in the preliminaryround, 9-13 in the semi-finalround and 9-15 in the finalround. Eachplayerplaysone game witheveryplayer of hisgroupsimultaneously.
The eventwillberatedwithtitlenorms, which are usuallypossible at the semi-final and final stages.
Entries
Playersmay enter in the usualwaythroughtheirNational Federationsor, whereeligible, via theICCF Direct Entry system.
Entries via National Federationsshouldcontainplayer’s name, Email address, ICCF ID and current rating (ICCF-List 4/2017) and shouldbeforwardedby e-mail to the TournamentOrganizer,Joop Jansen, e-mail: to reachhimbefore 5 November 2017.ItwouldbeappreciatedifFederationssendentries “as received” and notdelaythemuntilclosing date.
Allocation of playersto the preliminary and semifinalgroupswillbe made as random as possible; however, geographical distribution as well as anachievement of reasonableequality of the average rating, willbe taken into account.
TournamentOrganization
The tournamentwill start on2017-12-15.
Registrationwill beginimmediatelyand will close on2017-11-10to allowforpairings.
All preliminarygroupswill finish on2019-06-30.
Anyunfinished games thatwilldecidepromotionalpositions in the groupwillbeadjudicated.
The semi-finals are expected to start on2019-09-01at the latest.
The final is expected to start on2021-09-01at the latest.
Prizes
As confirmed at the ICCF Congress 2013, the totalprizefundforthiseventwillbe 6,000 EUR with, for the first time, prizesalsoawarded to winners of the Preliminary and Semi-finalSections (suchprizes, each to the value of approximately 25 EUR, willbe in the form of online vouchers orotherchessmaterialwithtie-breaks to beappliedifnecessary to determinesection winners).
In the Finalmedals and certificateswillbeawarded to the top 3 players (ifnecessarytie-breakswillbeapplied to determine the top 3 places). Also in the Final cash prizes of 1,000 EUR, 600 EUR, 300 EUR and 100 EUR willbeawarded to the top 4 players. Tie-breakswillnotbeapplied in respect of these cash prizes and insteadthoseplayersscoringequalpointswillequallyshareanyprize money due.
Qualification
The number of promotionswilldependontotalentriesreceived, butit is initiallyassumedthat the firsttwoplayers of eachpreliminarysectionwillqualifyfor the World Cup semi-final. The winner of eachsemi-finalsectionwillqualifyfor the World Cup final.
Although the number of preliminarygroupswhicheachplayermay enter is unlimited, noplayerwillqualifyfor more thantwosemi-finalgroupsor more thanone place in the final.
In addition, thoseplayerswhoqualifiedfor World Cup 21 and 22 Finalswillalsobeentitled to play in the semi-final stage of World Cup 23 and the winners of WC 21 and 22 Finalswillbeeligible to participate in World Cup Final 23.
The followingqualificationscanbeachieved in the final:
§ the winner and the runner-up may enter directly a World ChampionshipCandidates (tie break applies) (uponpayment of the entry fee) (ICCF TournamentRules, Article 1.3.1.(d));
§ the winner of the World Cup Final 22 willqualifyfor the final of the next World Cup Tournament without payingany entry fee (ICCF TournamentRules, Article 3.6) and willbeawarded the SIM title (ICCF TournamentRules, Article 10.6.(c));
§participants in the finalround have the right to take part in the semi-finalround of the nextcorrespondencechess World Cup tournament (uponpayment of the entry fee) (ICCF TournamentRules, Article 3.6)
§ the participants in a Final of the ICCF World Cup Tournamentwhofinished in place 3 or 4 (tie break applies) orscored at least 60% of the possiblepointsmay enter directly a World Championshipsemi-finals (uponpayment of the entry fee) (ICCF TournamentRules, Article 1.2.1.(e));
§ the participants in a Final of the ICCF World Cup Tournamentwhoscored at least 50% of the possiblepointsmay enter directly a World ChampionshipPreliminaries (uponpayment of the entry fee) (ICCF TournamentRules, Article 1.1.1.(e)).
MemberFederations are asked to give the tournamentwidepublicity to all theirplayers.
