New Appointment Drives RRC’s Expansion Near and Far

Leading health and safety training provider, RRC, has appointed Dr David Towlson to set up and run its new NEBOSH Level 4 block release courses. Subject to accreditation, the courses will commence in September 2005 in the Midlands and Bahrain, thus driving RRC’s expansion overseas and in the corporate market.

The launch of RRC’s block release courses builds on the company’s exemplary credentials and experience as an innovative specialist in health and safety training. It is in direct response to increased demand for a variety of health and safety training as the area becomes an ever-higher priority on companies’ agendas. This is particularly relevant overseas, in expanding market regions, such as the Middle East, which is why RRC will be offering a full range of taught courses in Bahrain.

‘While distance learning and e-learning remain the best, and in some cases the only, solution for companies and individuals requiring cost effective and flexible training, there is no doubt that many people benefit from taught courses if the time and funding are available,’ explains RRC MD, Gary Fallaize. ‘By expanding our offering to complement our existing portfolio of HSE courses, we will be providing an even more comprehensive choice of training solutions, not only for standard courses but also for the development and delivery of bespoke in company training.’

Dr David Towlson has the ideal qualifications and experience to drive RRC’s expansion in the UK and overseas markets. Being a former RRC student himself, as well as having held senior positions of responsibility within the international health and safety arena, he has gained a valuable perspective on particular issues affecting international HSE training.

After completing his studies for a PhD in Chemistry, David worked for Courtaulds for seven years (first as a research scientist and later adding safety manager to his responsibilities). It was during this time that he studied with RRC for his NEBOSH Diploma and became a corporate member of IOSH. David then moved to the EHS department of an international chemicals company as product regulatory officer for the European region. In this role, David developed particular expertise in chemical safety (control, logistics, hazard communication, marketing and use restrictions), a role which involved regular contact with customers and regulators in many countries, as well as the design and delivery of short in-house training packages for employees . David has a strong interest in EU directives on these subjects and international attempts at harmonisation of safety legislation in general. He is also a keen programmer, designing databases for handling safety data, interfacing with other software and for safety training purposes.

David has worked with RRC for a number of years as tutor for the Diploma level courses; more recently he has helped develop the RRC course materials for both the NEBOSH International General Certificate and the new NEBOSH Level 4 Diploma. David also has links with NEBOSH, having been a regular examiner for the Diploma examinations over the years.

‘RRC is fast developing a reputation as an internationally respected provider of quality health and safety training,’ says David Towlson. ‘We want to be the first provider that individuals and international companies turn to for the best health and safety training provision to suit their particular and varied needs. The development of the block release Level 4 Diploma programme is another step in that direction. I look forward to working with the team on this exciting initiative.’

‘We are thrilled that David will be bringing his unique skills and expertise to this position which is so important to help RRC’s expansion in both the taught course and international markets,’ concludes Gary Fallaize.
