NCFE Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Spectator Safety (600/1333/3)

NCFE Level 3 NVQ Certificate in Spectator Safety (600/1326/6)

NCFE Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Spectator Safety Management (600/2184/6)

This briefing sheet is designed to provide an overview of the new Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) Spectator Safety qualifications.

It also explains the recent amendments to the QCF Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Spectator Safety qualification.

NCFE Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Spectator Safety (600/1333/3)

The NCFE Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Spectator Safety (500/9665/5) was available from 01/06/2010 and consisted of 6 mandatory units. The qualification had 92GLH and 20 credits. This qualification was withdrawn on 30/04/2011 and is no longer available for learner registrations.

This qualification was withdrawn because the old Apprenticeship Framework wasn’t SASE compliant so the Sector Skills Council (SSC) requested an amendment to make the NVQ Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Spectator Safety a combined knowledge/competence qualification. To do this the following amendments were made:

¨  The Guided Learning Hours (GLH) of the qualification were reduced to 85 (from 92)

¨  The credit for the qualification was increased to 29 (from 20)

¨  3 units had their credit value increased (see below) – but the content remained the same

¨  One unit was replaced

We made the decision to withdraw 500/9665/5 and develop a new qualification with the amendments as we believed this to be the easiest process for our centres to manage. The new qualification is the NCFE Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Spectator Safety (600/1333/3) and this went live on 28/04/2011.

The changes are detailed in the table below:

Units / Old QCF qualification (500/9665/5) / New QCF qualification (600/1333/3)
Credit / GLH / Credit / GLH
Prepare for spectator events / 3 / 11 / 5 / 12
Control the entry, exit and movement of people at spectator events / 4 / 17 / 8 / 12
Monitor spectators and deal with crowd problems / 4 / 17 / 8 / 12
Help to manage conflict / 4 / 20 / 4 / 20
Deal with accidents and emergencies / 2 / 14 / 2 / 14

In addition to the above, the unit entitled ‘Contribute to the work of the team’ has now been replaced with ‘Support the work of the team and organisation’. This is the only unit that has changed from the previous QCF qualification.

The qualification units for the revised QCF qualification are summarised below:

Overview of changes between NQF and QCF qualification

This table shows how the units have been transferred to the new QCF qualification and in which order.

Prepare stewards and venues for spectator events / Unit 01 / Unit 01

As you can see from this table there has only been one slight change in the order of units from NQF – QCF. However, please be aware that although the unit titles have remained the same, the QCF units now have learning outcomes and assessment criteria. This is because they are now mapped to Spectator Safety NOS rather then being solely based on them.
