NBAAA Meeting Notes

February 14, 2009

Next Meeting: The next meeting for the NBAAA board will be on Sunday 3/14 at “The Villages of North Branch” on the 3rd floor meeting room starting at 6:30pm. This is also Day Light Savings, so please set you clocks ahead for the meeting.

Rec Night:Rec Night on 2/19 is being taken care of by NBBA Rec. ball. They have the volunteers needed for this event. Dennis, Barb and Jeff will be at the event. Jeff Sampson is checking with Community Ed to see if we owe for previous Rec Nights.

Community Expo: Community Expo will be held on 3/6 from 10 am - 3 pm. Both Jeff Henderson and Jeff Sampson will set up and watch the booth during this event. Jeff Henderson will bring a table, computer, projector and tootsie pops, Dennis will bring the banner and Jeff Sampson will bring a power supply.

North Branch Youth Athletic flyer: The North Branch Youth Athletic flyer will be available next week. Dennis agreed to stop by Myron's office to pick them up.

Traveling Baseball: Baseball is in the process of doing background checks on all coaches. They have signups Sunday 2/21.

Middle school sports: Mike Cunningham is going to make some changes for the middle school sports programs next year. He will either have to eliminate programs or increase revenues to help pay for the programs. Some of the programs impacted will include the 7th and 8th grade baseball, basketball, football, softball, volleyball programs. Mike would like to keep the varsity programs without change, but work with the middle school programs. Jeff Henderson suggested that Mike use a committee to help him work on options for the budget cuts.

Coaches training: Jeff asked Mike about varsity coach involvement in training the coaches. There are some coaches that currently provide warm-up skill drills for the coaches of the young athletes to follow. If we do this, the varsity coaches see what they expect coming into their programs.

School sports needs: Track and Field may need a new track to replace the current track. This would cost the school $300,000.

Youth Sports needs: Resources are an issue for most sports. Baseball, softball, football and soccer could all use new fields to allow more teams time to practice. The City of North Branch is aware of the issue.

Insurance: Basketball is the only sport that reported an injury this year. Insurance is due again for NBAAA and this policy will be good from 3/1/2010 to 2/28/2011. The sporting groups currently covered by our insurance include football, baseball and basketball.

Booster clubs: Jeff Henderson asked that we add a tab for High School booster clubs.
