Course Description: Anatomy and Physiology I (4) (A.A.)

Three hours lecture, three hours lab per week. Prerequisite: A score of 83 or higher on the Florida Placement Test in reading. This course meets Area V requirement for the A.A./A.A.S./A.S. general education requirements. This course studies the anatomy and physiology of the human body beginning with basic definitions and including the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous, respiratory, digestive, reproductive, endocrine, immune, urinary and circulatory systems. It is strongly recommended that students without recent course work in biology take BSC 1007, BSC 1008 or BSC 2010C.

Attendance Policy

Regular attendance is in your best interest. You are expected to attend all class and laboratory meetings. Please refer to the 2008-2009 course catalog, page 43, for the class attendance statements.

Grading Policy : Lecture will account for 70 % of the final course grade.

·  Regular Exams (40% of final grade): A total of four regular exams will be given. Exam questions will be taken primarily from the lecture notes and corresponding text. The exam dates in the syllabus are tentative.

·  Final Exam (15% of final grade): One comprehensive final exam will be given.

·  Quizzes & Assignments (15% of final grade): Announced and unannounced quizzes may be administered any time during lecture, or given as assignments to be completed outside of class.

·  Extra Credit: You can earn 5 points of extra credit per regular exam. Your instructor will have more details.

Grading Scale: A = 100 – 90% B = 89 – 80% C = 79 – 70% D = 69 - 60% F = 59% and below

Make-up Policy:

A make-up for a quiz, exam or assignment will be allowed under the following circumstances only:

1.)  You notify your instructor that you will be missing class before the actual day you miss, or

2.)  You contact your instructor (via phone or email message) with your college approved excuse for having missed a class before the next class period.

Failure to follow one of these two methods will result in your receiving a zero on the given assignment.

Laboratory

You must be signed up for 2085C (this lecture) AND 2085L (a separate lab). Laboratory will account for 30% of the final course grade.

Withdrawal Policy

In accordance with the Manatee Community College policy as stated in the college catalog, students may withdraw from any course or all courses without academic penalty of a WF by the withdrawal deadline as listed in the Manatee Community College academic calendar. This semester this date is Monday, October 27, 2008. The student must take responsibility for initiating the withdrawal procedure. Students are strongly encouraged to talk with their instructors first before taking any withdrawal action.
