When a disaster threatens or strikes, the Red Cross provides shelter, food health and mental health services to address the basic human needs. The Red Cross also feeds emergency workers, handles inquiries from concerned family members outside the disaster area, and helps those affected by disaster to access other available community resources. The Thunder Basin Branch maintains close working relationships with local emergency response and human service agencies in order to insure that the needs of disaster victims can be managed efficiently and effectively. Disaster relief services include the following:
Shelter and Feeding: The most visible and well-known of the Red Cross disaster relief activities are sheltering and feeding. When disaster strikes, the Red Cross opens shelters for those displaced by a disaster and provides meals and snacks to families and to emergency workers in the affected area.
