Kennesaw State University (KSU) is seeking candidates for the position of Temporary Instructor of Korean housed in the Department of Foreign Languages (DFL), beginning January 2, 2013. This position is partly funded by a Title VI Department of Education grant and we will advertise soon for a permanent Assistant Professor of Korean to start in August 2013. The person selected for the temporary instructor position will be invited to apply for the permanent Assistant Professor position. Assignments for the temporary position will consist of teaching two (2) lower-level Korean courses, assisting with the development of the curriculum, and developing and implementing a recruitment plan. Minimum required qualifications:
· M.A. degree in Korean Studies or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate hours in the content area.
· Documented record of experience in proficiency-based instruction and assessment; facilitation of skill development in Korean language and culture, and intercultural competence.
· Native or near-native fluency in Korean as well as in English.
· Ability to work effectively as a team member within the DFL.

With 28 full-time and approximately 30 part-time faculty members, the DFL houses a B.A. degree program in Modern Language and Culture in three languages (French, German, Spanish) and four concentrations (Second language and culture, Teacher certification in foreign languages, Applied business, and Cross-disciplinary perspectives). In addition to offering Minors in the primary languages of the Modern Language and Culture major, we also offer Minors in Chinese Studies, Classical Studies, and Italian Studies, and we offer regular instruction in Hebrew, Latin, and Portuguese, and instruction in five other languages via the Critical Languages Program. Recently, the DFL launched an M.A.T. program in Chinese and Spanish, and the DFL offers a non-degree Alternative Teacher Preparation Program leading to certification in Chinese, French, German, Latin, Korean, and Spanish. Furthermore, as a distinctive characteristic, DFL faculty and students are engaged in the community and beyond including initiatives related to teaching-learning, service, and research, which are often facilitated via service-learning, internships, and study abroad opportunities.
