National Team Managers Selection Process for

2019 World Major Competitions

USA Track & Field (USATF) is accepting applications for team manager positions for the following teams:

  • 2019 Pan American Games – Lima, Peru (August 4 – 10)
  • 2019 IAAF World Championships– Doha, Qatar (September 28 – October 6)

The High Performance Executive Committee will be selecting national team managerial staff for above-referenced teams at the 2017 USATF Annual Meeting. Per USATF Operating Regulation 17, selected team staff shall be nominated and recommended by the High Performance Executive Committee for submission to the CEO for screening, to the USATF Board of Directors for approval and, when relevant, to the USOC for final approval.

Individuals wishing to be considered for these national team staff positions should complete the online application no later than October 30, 2017. A link to the application can be found below.

Applicants must meet specific criteria as indicated below to apply for national team staff positions. Please do not apply for a staff position for which you have not met all of the criteria. Such applications will not be considered.

DUTIES

The following descriptions are brief summaries of the duties of a Head Manager and an Event Manager. Additional responsibilities will be outlined in detail and provided to individuals selected to a team.

Head Manager

Head Managers communicate regularly with head and assistant coaches, event managers and medical staff regarding pertinent competition information. Head Managers also works with the National Office/Team Leader regarding overall team logistics (onsite transportation, competition procedures, etc.).

Event Manager

Event Managers will work closely with the Team Leader and Head Managers, assisting with the execution of team logistics as outlined above under the Head Manager’s duties.

CANDIDATES POOL

The managerial staffs of the above-referenced teams will be selected from the applications received by USATF no later than October 30, 2017. To be considered for inclusion in the pool,allinterested persons must submit an online application, regardless of the individual’s past experience or team assignments.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Individuals selected for any one of the 2018 and/or 2019 Non-World managerial staffs must:

  1. Submit a fully completed online application to USATF on or before October 30, 2017. Applicants who have submitted applications in previous years are eligiblebutmustsubmit a new application to confirm their interest and provide current contact information. Applications must provide a full and accurate disclosure of any prior experience on USATF national teams. False representation of prior national staff experience will immediately disqualify an individual from consideration.
  2. Be a current member in good standing with USATF, and remain a member for the duration of the period served.
  3. Successfully pass the National Center for Safety Initiatives’ (NCSI) background screen in accordance with current USATF and, when relevant, USOC Background Screening Policies. (Should a nominee experience any event between the time the background screen is conducted and the relevant Championships/Games that may change his/her background screen status, the nominee must inform USATF).

  5. Be available for the entire duration including additional days for any training camp(s) and travel.
  6. Possess a valid passport that does not expire until at least six months after the conclusion of the competition for which they may be selected.
  7. Be in good health and able to withstand the physical rigors of traveling with and working with the Team.
  8. Be detail-oriented and logistically-minded with a service-oriented personality, committed to putting the athlete first.
  9. Be willing to serve in a behind-the-scenes administrative position with limited or no opportunity to see the event.
  10. Sign the USATF National Team Agreement to Represent.

Applicants must also meet national team managerial selection criteria specific to the 2019 Pan American Games, and 2019IAAF World Championships.Please only apply for team staff positions and events for which you are truly qualified.
SPECIFIC CRITERIA FOR 2019 PAN AMERICAN GAMES
Applicants must meet all of the general requirements, as listed above, in addition to the following criteria.

Head Manager Must:

  1. Be experienced and have the proven ability working with teams at the national and international levels with positive ratings and comments on the athlete and staff evaluation.
  2. Have the proven ability to establish harmonious relationships with athletes, personal coaches and other team personnel.
  3. Have served as Head Manager or professional support staff (Event/Pool Manager) in a complete track & field team environment on at least three (3) national teams during the last eight (8) years of which one (1) must have been a World Championships, Olympic Games, Pan American Games, World Junior Championships or a NACAC Senior Championships.
  4. Be available for entire duration of the event including training camps if held, committing to up to two (2) weeks travel with the team.
  5. Participate in USATF Managers TrainingSeminar at the 2018 Annual Meeting or the 2019 USATF Outdoor Championships.

Event Managers Must

  1. Have served as a head manager, assistant manager or event manager on a full track & field team, of which at least one must have been one of the following teams: World Outdoor Championships, World Indoor Championships, Olympic Games, Pan American Games or World Junior Championships within the last 12 years.
  2. Be available for entire duration of the event including training camps if held, committing to up to two (2) weeks travel with the team.
  3. Participate in USATF Managers Training Seminar at the 2018 Annual Meeting or the 2019 USA Outdoor Championships.

SPECIFIC CRITERIA FOR 2019 IAAF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Applicants must meet all of the general requirements, as listed above, in addition to the following criteria.

Head Manager Must:

  1. Have served as Head Manager or Event/Pool Manager in a complete track & field team environment on at least two (2) national teams during the last eight (8) years of which one (1) must have been a World Championships, Olympic Games, Pan American Games, World Junior Championships, World University Games or a NACAC Senior Championships.
  2. Be experienced and have the proven ability working with teams at the national and international levels.
  3. Have the proven ability to establish harmonious relationships with athletes, personal coaches and other Team personnel.
  4. Be available for entire duration of the event including training camps if held, committingto up to three (3) weeks travel with the team.
  5. Be able to participate in USATF Managers Training Seminar at the 2018 Annual Meeting or the 2019 USATF Outdoor Championships.

Event Manager

  1. Have served on a national team with a complete track & field team environment in some capacity (i.e. coach, manager, event manager, etc.).
  2. Be available for entire duration of the event including training camps if held, committing to up to three (3) weeks travel with the team.
  3. Be able to participate in USATF Managers Training Seminar at the 2018 Annual Meeting or the 2019 USATF Outdoor Championships.
