National Pan-Hellenic Council ofPrince George’s CountyScholarship

Purpose: To provide scholarships to deserving Prince George’s Countyhigh school seniors who will be attending an accredited college or university in the fall of 2011.

Award Components:One $500 scholarship and individual certificate will be awarded to onePrince George’s County student resident who currently attends a Prince George’s CountyPublic School. One $500 scholarship and an individual certificate will be awarded to a Prince George’s County student resident who is not in the Prince George’s County Public School System, i.e. a private school student or a student attending school outside of the Prince George’s County Public School System.

Criteria:

  1. Applicant must be a Prince George’s County resident.
  2. Applicant must be a high school senior accepted to and enrolledin an accredited college or university in the fall semester of 2011.
  3. Applicant must demonstrate academic achievement as well as participate in extra curricular activities while in high school. If the applicant holds a leadership roles in their community activities, this should be described in detail in the essay
  4. Applicant should have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 out of 4.0 at the time of the application.

Application Process (Applicant must submit):

  1. Completed application (incomplete applications will not be processed).
  2. 500 word typed essay explaining:
  3. Why the applicant has applied for this scholarship
  4. What contributions the applicant has made in their community
  5. The goals and aspirations of the applicant
  6. Why attending college or university is important to the applicant
  7. Two (2) letters of recommendationfrom the principal, counselors, teachers, pastors, and/or youth counselors (One letter must come from school).
  8. A sealed official transcript of the applicant’s high school record.

Deadline for application is April 16, 2011. Applications postmarked after this date will not be considered. All information collected will be held in confidence. If all requested items are not present at the time of submission, the candidate will not be considered. If the Council cannot verify student’s status at an accredited college or university, the scholarship will be rescinded.
