Hello Everyone,

I hope you all had a refreshing holiday!

Background: Wehad the National Health Sciences Students' Association conference this past Jan 3-7 in Saskatton, and it wassuggested that since Alberta was running a LiteracyAward to promote interprofessional work and the national levelwouldlike an essay competition, the Alberta chapter will be helping guide or hosting (?)a Western Canada interprofessionalessay competition. This will expand the Alberta HSSA'sessay competition to include the provinces west of the Manitoba/Ontario border.

1) As I understand, Steven Hoffmann (NaHSSA President) has informed me that there may be somefundingavailable, amounting to about $500, which I have put into the document attached.Pleasereview the attachment as give feedback as you see fit.

2) Pleaseadvise, as appropriate:

- Steven, should I contact Dr. John Gilbert regarding the judging of this literary competition or would you like to do the honors?

- where or who (which e-mail address?) should the essay be submitted to -- or will there be a FORM, as discussedinformallyat the conference this past weekend?

- Sharla, I know we discussed at a meeting last term that we would not incorporate this into the curriculum of Int-D 410, but I wouldappreciateany guidance you may offer or if you couldat least informstudentsregistered in the Int-D 410 programs about this opportunity, I wouldtrulyappreciate it.

3) To facilitate discussion, I invite you to become part of the Alberta HSSAForum, with Executive status (Rahim, please post the attachment in the Forum andadd the namesto view the executive sectionas appropriate: Matthew Henrie, Erin Hamilton, Mark Ng, Sandra Allison,OmolayoFamuyide, Steven Hoffmann, Sharla King). Please note, you will stillneed to sign up on the Forum and thengetapproved by our amazingwebmaster Rahim Kachra).
- I do realize, we have one ofthe Alberta HSSA logos (ie: it is Green and Gold, the U of A colors, and has our crest on it)on right now. Can I have permission to use the NaHSSA logo?

I apologize for the long e-mail and the relatively short notice of this expansion. (As you will notice if you open up the U of A'sstudenthandbook, you will see that HSSA's Essay and Awards Application Deadline iswritten in the Feb 23 slot, so it would be in our best interests to act in a timelymanner).

Thank you in advance,

Lana

P.S: (As it stands, Literaryaward = essay competition for the moment, we can change it if so desired)********* As these details are not finalizedyet, please refrain from sharing this information unless it is for constructive feedback of
