HIGHLIGHTS

Published 58 International Journals, 133 International Conference Papers, 3 Book chapters, and 98 Issued Patents (US-43, TW-55, 1st inventor of 31 patents). Presented Plenary talk on ADMD 2014 (Sendai, Japan) and Keynote address on 3DSA2009 (Seoul, Korea); and give more than 30 invited Talks on International Conferences.

Proposed and developedAMVA technology on 2004, to create 8-domain VA with only single data and gate lines. The proposed solution is not only for solving the color washout but also for self-overdrive to shorten the response time. This technology had been widely used on AUO’s TV and monitor products, from 20-inch to 65-inch. It also won the AUO Bravo Award on 2005.

Proposed Stencil-FSC on 2009 to solve the Color-break-up without using high field-rate. Successfully implemented on the world largest 65-inch Color Filter-less PSVA-LCD with AUO. The average power consumption is lower than 40-Watts for a 65-inch TV. This technology awarded 2009 SID Distinguished paper award, 2009 J-SID Best Student Paper of the Year Award, and 2014 Gold Medal of National Invention Prize(Taiwan). AUO purchased all the related patents (totally 12 patents) on 2012, and is keep on collaborating with AUO to realize Stencil-FSC into mass production.

Developed high-resistance LC-lens Array technology on 3D Display, interactive, and capturing technologies. Proposed “Scanning LC-lens” on 2011 to solve the resolution issue on various 3D displays, such as multi-view or light-field. The developed 3D technologies had been licensed and transferred to more than 10 companies. Is now collaborating with NICT Japan on see-through holographic display, which was accepted by Nature communications on 2016.

Has awarded 4 times SID symposium Distinguished Paper Award (2001, 2004, 2009, 2015), and a J-SID Best Student Paper of the Year Award(Advisor of the 1st author).

Serving as the Chairman of SID Taipei Chapter; was the associate Editor of Journal of SID, and was the chair of Applied Vision sub-committee of SID symposium.

Organized 3 International Conferences related to SID; IDMC&3DSA 2015 (Technical Program Chair), IDMC’13 (Technical Program Chair), and IDMC’11(Technical Program Co-Chair). Is currently serving as the Deputy Technical Program Chair of SID2017.
