Background:

·  The Diana Award was established in 1999 in memory of Diana, Princess of Wales, as a legacy to her belief in the power of young people to change the world. The award celebrates the amazing achievements of inspirational young people, who defy expectation and challenge the negative stereotypes that are so often applied to them. David Cameron is a patron of the award among many others.

·  The Diana Awardhas an exciting peer-ledinitiative called the Anti-Bullying Ambassadors Programme. Anti-Bullying Ambassadors are the public face of anti-bullying work happening in schools and communities across the UK. An Ambassador is a young person who wants to be part of a UK wide network that is putting a stop to bullying.

Key purpose:

The Diana Award is hosting a national conference for schools and academies that are part of The Diana Award’s Anti-bullying Ambassador’s Programme. This is a Department for Education project which sees over 1,500 young anti-bullying ambassadors and over 200 schools tackling bullying in their school, receiving training and support as part of the programme.

During the event, we will launch an exciting new piece of research carried out with over 1,500 young people on Cyberbullying and will present findings to government Ministers, policy makers and the press.

The event will also be an opportunity to share some of the good practice that is taking place in the ambassador schools, showcasing this to a large audience from across the UK.

In the first half of the day, young people will have the opportunity to participate in creative workshops to explore the issue of bullying through a number of workshops: dance, art, music, drama, fun and games and poetry.

In the second half of the day, we will showcase some of the achievements of the earlier workshops. A networking session will allow all schools to speak to each other about what anti-bullying work they carry out. Then a special panel will answer questions on the subject of bullying. After that an Anti-bullying ‘Dragon’s Den’ will see young ambassadors pitch their innovative ideas to tackle bullying to a select group, prizes will go to the best ideas.

The event will end with a special anti-bullying surprise!
