All seniors who receive an academic scholarship from a college invited to attend!

You do NOT have to plan to accept in order to participate!!

Bring letters verifying your scholarship to Mrs. Strunk as soon as you receive them! Deadline to receive your scholarship documentation allowing you to participate in signing: April 12, 2013.

NEW HOPE REGULATION:

Beginning summer term 2013, a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) will be required in order to receive any state financial aid.* The 2012-13 or 2013-14 FAFSA may be used for summer term 2013. Please check with the financial aid office for any college-specific application policies and deadlines.

A 2013-14 FAFSA will be required for fall term 2013 and will be applicable through summer term 2014. A current year FAFSA is required for each year, thereafter, that you seek state financial aid.

Students may no longer simply register on GaCollege411.

This is NEW!!!

Registration for AP Exams will run from February 26 – March 22 ONLY! Each test is $89. Free/Reduced lunch students received reduced rate. See Mrs. Strunk at time of registration.

Scholarship Information

MSG Jared Van Aalst Scholar Award: one $3,500 award available; 2 $2,500 awards available –

Must be dependent unmarried children under age 23 of active duty, reserve/guard, or retired

military members, or survivors of service members who died on active duty. 2 letters of

recommendation required; copy of SAT/ACT; copy of college acceptance letter; high school

transcript; minimum UNWEIGHTED GPA of 3.5 in order to apply! Applications in Senior Box

in Guidance Office. For more information see . (Please see this website

National Association of Negro Business & Professional Women’s Clubs, Inc. –

African-American descent; current AL or GA resident; minimum of 2.0 on 4.0 scale; 2 letters of

recommendation; transcript; resume of activities; packet completed. Applications in Senior Box in

Guidance Office.

Community Foundation’s James Henry Smith & Gladys Manning Smith Scholarship –

Must enter college in Fall of 2013; must reside in Muscogee County; must be U.S. citizen;

may not have a family member on the Community Foundation of the Chattahoochee Valley, Inc.;

must have completed a FAFSA. Award between $6,000 and $7,000; renewable.

Complete application in Senior Box in Guidance Office.

Deadline: March 18 by 5 p.m.

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity –

Amount of award not defined in informational materials; application on file in Senior Box in

Guidance Office; 500 word essay “My Road to get where I hope to be ten years from now.”

Awards go directly to registrar’s office of post-secondary institution.

Deadline: April 9, 2013

JUGS, Columbus, GA Chapter –

Dora E. Jackson Scholarship: must be graduating senior; must be current resident of Columbus,

Phenix City, or Fort Benning; must have 3.0 GPA. Essay required, as well as high school transcript

and letter of acceptance to college. Applications on file in Senior Box in Guidance Office.

Deadline: April 1, 2013

Georgia Military College – Columbus Campus – Ambassador Scholarship

Must submit application and $35 application fee; complete application on file in Senior Box

in Guidance Office; submit letter of recommendation from an academic teacher; high school

transcript.

Deadline: March 15, 2013

Diverse Power Foundation, Inc. -

Must be high school senior; scholarship paid directly to the college; scholastic ability and financial

need considered; 100 -150 word essay; photo required. Applications in Senior Box in

Guidance Office. Deadline: April 30, 2013

Sisters, Inc. and AKA, Inc. –

Several merit based and need based scholarships awarded to female students.

Must submit official transcript and college acceptance letter; 3 recommendations (sealed);

Applications available in Senior Box in Guidance Office Deadline: April 23, 2013

Andrew J. Oswald Memorial Scholarship –

$1000 award per year for a lacrosse player who will play lacrosse in college; 2 letters of

recommendation required. Applications available in Senior Box in the Guidance Office.

Deadline: April 22, 2013

Alpha Phi Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. –

Must be a male senior attending a 4 year college; financial need considered; resume of activities;

2.5 gpa minimum; 440 CR and 410 M on SAT required or 18 English and 17 Math ACT; essay

required.

Deadline: April 1, 2013

CVCC Counselor’s Scholarship –

Two-year scholarship available to Columbus High student interested in attending Chattahoochee Valley Community College. Full-tuition. See Mrs. Strunk for details.

For Hospital Volunteers specifically:

Council on Auxiliaries/Volunteers Youth Scholarship 2013 – applications on file in Senior Box in the guidance office. Contact Mrs. Nancy Williams at Columbus Regional for letter of recommendation at . Applicants must have been a hospital volunteer; must attend the Youth Conference in order to receive the award; must have at least 3.0 GPA; must follow all application directions specifically. Deadline: June 1, 2013

Elizabeth Wilmot Bull Memorial Scholarship 2013 – 2 letters of reference required in a sealed envelope; personal narrative; official transcript; official proof of acceptance to college; personal interview if selected; postmark deadline: February 15, 2013. Contact to make an appointment for signature and/or reference letter. Applications on file in guidance office.

Shaw Scholarship –

Applicants must be graduates of MCSD; must plan to pursue career in education; scholarship

is for 3 semesters at Columbus State University only; applications available in the Senior Box

in the Guidance Office. Deadline: March 15, 2013

Buick Scholarship –

Applicants must plan to major in field of study that focuses on engineering, technology, design,

or business, with an interest in the automotive industry. Apply at

Visine “Students with Vision” –

$5000 for students who have demonstrated a clear vision or goal for their future. Minimum GPA of

2.8; online application only. Visit aim.applyists.net/Vision. Submit through March 1 only.

Teens Who Care –

Sponsored by the Junior League of Columbus, GA; $1000 for high school seniors from Columbus who have “gone the extra mile” to contribute to the community as volunteers. Payment directly to the college. Postmarked by Friday, March 22, 2013. Applications in the Senior Box in the Guidance Office.

AFLAC –

Scholarships available for Columbus High students only. Applications on file soon in the Senior Box in the Guidance Office. Interviews required if selected. All judging done by AFLAC staff. More details on the application that is forthcoming.
