POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

POSITION: / Instructor, English(General Education)
Job Duties: / Under general supervision, provides instruction to students in General Education English courses. Demonstrates the use of appropriate teaching techniques. Demonstrates the use of appropriate testing and grading procedures including proper maintenance of grade books and any other appropriate record-keeping required. Demonstrates the effective use of oral and written communication skills. Demonstrates knowledge of current procedures in the English field. Follows approved course syllabus. Completes all reports, records and invoices in a timely manner and maintains an accurate inventory of all assigned properties. Advises and counsels students and maintains appropriate advisement records on each student. Maintains classrooms and labs in accordance with institutional safety guidelines. Attends meetings as required and appropriate. Observes and enforces the institution’s policies and regulations. Assists with student recruitment and job placement. Serves on committees. Maintains qualifications for employment in accordance with institutional and accreditation guidelines. Maintains qualifications for employment as described by the Technical College system of Georgia Policy Manual. Follows rules and regulations as described by the Technical College System of Georgia Policy Manual and other policies and procedures established by the institution.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS: / Master’s Degree in English, Literary Studies, or Rhetoric or at least 18 graduate hours in English from a regionally accredited institution. Must have either teaching experience in English or graduate training in remedial education. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills. Ability to work flexible hours when necessary. Adult Education Degrees are not acceptable.
PREFERRED
QUALIFICATIONS: / Doctorate Degree in English from a regionally accredited institution. Three years paid work experience in English, Journalism or related field within the past seven years. Work experience must include the competencies, skills and knowledge levels required for English language/English literature instruction for learning support (remedial) and general education areas. Experience as an instructor/teacher in a secondary or postsecondary setting. Minimum plus experience with BANNER student information system. Experience with Angel Online Learning system. Experience with Microsoft Office.
WORK SCHEDULE: / Monday - Friday
SALARY: / Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
