b) Genetic Improvement of lentil(Lens culinaris Medik)

c) Genetic improvement of Mungbean through use of induced mutation breeding.

Objectives

High grain yield. High oil content. Early maturity. Short stature. Non- shattering. Wide adaptability. Disease tolerance.

Scientific Achievements:

Two promising mutants of variety Rainbow R00-100/6 and R00-125/14 and one mutant of Westar W97-0.75/16 were advanced to the NUVYT trial on the basis of high yielding and high oil content.

 Mutant R00 125/14(1675) showed good performance last year in NUVYT trail and stands on third position on overall Pakistan basis. Proposal submitted to the technical sub committee as a (NIA Canola 2010) Hopefully this line will get some place in the varietals complex of Sindh.

 The NIA-MASOOR-05 has been approved by the provincial seed council, Government of Sindh for general cultivation in the province of Sindh as the first ever variety of Lentil in Sindh, On the basis of short duration, better quality,high yielding and resistant to diseases.

One candidate variety in Lentil National Uniform Trial.

Zonal Trial at seven location in the province of Sindh.

Multiplication of eight acreas of NIA-Masoor-05at farmer field in 10 locations in the province of Sindh.

Screening of Eight international nurseries (ICARDA, Syria) For high yielding and disease resistance.

Release of first ever variety AEM-96 for the province of Sindh IN THE YEAR 1998.

Covering about 45% area(4500 ha ) cultivated under Mungbean in Sindh.

An amount of Rs:50,000 has been generated by selling 4631 kg BNS seed.

About 1000 kg seed worth Rs: 70,000 will be sold in coming season.

Multiplication of AEM-96on 2.0 acres at NIA Experimental farm.
