Name ______Due Date ______Period: _____ Lunar Cycle Project – DUE DATE: Mon 8/28 & Tues 8/29

Blog – Write a blog post that explains the Lunar Cycle (phases of the moon) to someone who has no knowledge of it. Include making predictions of past and future Moon phases. (monthly cycle) / Comic/Cartoon – Create a comic book or cartoon that demonstrates your Understanding of the Lunar Cycle, (phases of the moon). Include making predictions of past and future moon phases.(monthly cycle)

Task Requirements:

1. Create a comic/cartoon that contains the Moon, Earth and the Sun.

2. The drawings should be as close to scale as possible. An example, do not have the Earth and the Moon the same size! Recall that the Moon is ¼ the size of the Earth.

3. The drawings should have the moon in eight different locations for each phase.

4. The phases must be labeled and in the correct order.

5. The moon(s) should represent how we see it from earth (shadows present) for each phase.

6. The blog should be a minimum of one page fully explaining the eight phases and prediction of past and future moon phases.

IB RUBRIC:

Criterion A: Knowing and Understanding

Students should be able to:

i. describe scientific knowledge

1-8 moon(s) in drawing/writing are correctly

shaded to represent the phases, each phase is

labeled clearly, and are in the correct order.

ii. apply scientific knowledge and understanding

to solve problems set in familiar and unfamiliar

situations

Comic/Cartoon represents proper size

scale (as feasible as possible) of the Sun,

Earth and Moon(s). The moon is represented

how it is seen from Earth. (phases of the moon).

The blog includes the explanation and

understanding of the terms and their use in

the moon phase.

iii. analyze information to make scientifically

supported judgments

Scientific reasoning with information

is present. Making predictions of past and

future moon phases.
