OBJEKTIF : By the end of this course, students are able to

a.  Identify and explain the principles of literary criticism;

b.  apply the principles of literary criticism;

c.  analyse selected literary texts critically;

d.  justify the relevance of the approaches selected when analysing texts;

e.  design and organise presentations on critical analysis professionally; and

f.  work as a team effectively.

SINOPSIS : This course introduces students to approaches to critical appreciation of

literary texts whereby students are exposed to the principles of literary criticism. Students are guided on how to apply the principles of literary criticism learnt to their critical analysis of selected literary texts from different literary traditions. The course also demonstrates the relevance of selecting the appropriate approach when analysing texts. It also encourages students to work as a team effectively when designing and organising presentations on their critical analysis of selected texts.

KANDUNGAN : 1. Critical theory and the approaches to literary texts 15 hrs.

2. Principles of literary criticism 3 hrs.

3. Methods of literary criticism 9 hrs.

4.   Basic literary terms 3 hrs.

5. Analysis of selected texts with guided questions 12 hrs.

TOTAL 42 HRS.
