Duties:Initiated a new course from scratch. Designed the course structure and conducted laboratory practical classes and field excursions for undergraduates. Developed course material (text, audio-visual & multimedia) for distant education. Edited and compiled three course books, practical books and field guides. Supervised research postgraduate & honours students and directed them in their experiments and thesis writing. I was responsible for setting and moderating the examination papers, and drafting performance evaluation criteria. I was the senior coordinator of thermodynamics, optics, geophysics, essentials of geology, research projects in physics, literature projects in physics and foundation courses in physics. Developed links with local and overseas higher educational and research institutes as well as with the industrial sector.

Thesis topic: Formation of Secondary Phosphates by Weathering of Apatite-Rich Carbonatite – An Example from Sri Lanka. Learned advanced techniques in modern analytical techniques and methodologies.

Duties:Carried out a research project on Eppawala PhosphateDepositin Sri Lanka and the results were submitted for an MPhil degree in 1990.Results were also presented in local and international conferences and published in journals.Two original instrumental techniques were published in international SCI journals. Jointly wrote a successful project proposal (as a co-investigator) for external funding from IDRC, Canada for the second phase of the project.
1986-87Research assistant – Department of Geology, Univ. Peradeniya, Sri Lanka.
Duties: Worked on a NARESA research project on “Banded Iron Formation” under the supervision of Prof. K. Dahanayake. Conducted geological mapping, sampling and, mineralogical, petrological and geochemical analyses of rock samples.
