Carers Allowance Petition

There’s an online petition running until Feb 2017 asking for an increase in Carers Allowance in line with the Living Wage:

Independent Age

This charity provides free information and advice for older people and their families on care and support, money and benefits and health and mobility, along with friendship services to relieve loneliness. They challenge poor care and campaign for a fair deal for older people – a reasonable standard of living, fair access to information and an opportunity to contribute to their communities.

They have a selection of good leaflets & guides that can be downloaded for free or hard-copies ordered – some specifically for carers giving guidance on choosing a care home

Carers Hospital Passport

Replacing the previous Carers Badge, this passport provides official primary carers, who are continuing to give care for a loved one whilst they are in hospital, with a range of benefits. These include help with car parking, provision of tea and coffee on the ward whilst they are providing care and access to the cared-for outside visiting hours.

They are provided to carers wanting to provide ongoing physical (hygiene, dressing, eating etc), emotional (reassurance, explaining treatments etc) or social support (such as reading or helping with communication) to the cared-for whilst in hospital

Talk to ward staff if you’d like to know about this.

Senior Patient Experience Manager Debra Clark said: “we hope that our new Carers Passport will offer many more carers an easier way of getting support when the person they look after is in hospital.

To help carers find out what support is available to them and the person they care for, both during and after a hospital admission, contact Carers Gloucestershire’s Hospitals Liaison Officer Louise de Lloyd – 01452 386283

Gloucestershire Gadget ‘n’ Go online shop

Launched in May 2016, the new online signposting website Gadget ‘n’ Go is a one-stop shop for small/cheap pieces of equipment to assist in daily living. The site is currently supported by the Gloucestershire Community Equipment Service, Telecare and Sensory Services team.

The aim is to help people of all ages stay safe and independent at home by providing information to

help them or their families buy small, low cost equipment to provide support at home without the

need for an assessment. There is a wide range of equipment including bathroom and kitchen aids,

easy to use utensils, medication reminders and help moving around and about. Some of this

equipment is more relevant to adults than children, but some will also be helpful for young people.

Easy to use hyperlinks are also on the site allowing users to jump to the category of equipment

they are interested in buying.

It can be found at or through the

Community Equipment Services’ website () and Telecare website ().
