Ali Hosin

Hi everyone!

My name is Ali Hosin and I’m running for Academic Officer for Years 1, 2 and Graduate Entry.

ICSM prides itself on delivering top class teaching whilst ensuring that students are adequately prepared for their clinical studies. As Academic Officer I will ensure that the Faculty delivers on this promise, and that the student educational experience at ICSM is as smooth and uncomplicated as possible.

In my role as Year Representative in both Years 1 and 2, I have been working alongside the previous two Academic Officers in the ongoing improvement of the Medicine course and expressing students’ concerns to the Faculty. I therefore feel that I have the insight and experience to effectively represent students in all matters relating to pre-clinical education and push for changes where they are needed.

As Academic Officer I will:

- Always be available to hear your views, comments and criticisms
- Keep the ICSMSU website updated as a comprehensive resource for notes, practice questions and other learning materials
- Organise regular subject-specific tutorials to help consolidate learning
- Push for more exam practice – PMSAs, self-tests, mock exams
- Work in parallel with the Graduate Medicine Society in ensuring that the specific requirements of Graduate Entry students are catered for
- Further develop and promote the SU mentoring scheme as an effective form of peer support

This is your Student Union – make sure you have your say.

Hello! My name is Viknesh and I am running for Academic Officer (Years 1, 2, GEP).

After having had the privilege of representing my peers as a year rep and having sat on a Student Staff Liaison Group Meeting with the academic powers that be, I feel that I possess the right qualities and experience to fulfil the role of Academic Officer. Having worked with the current Academic Officer over the year and having helped organise tutorials, I am very familiar with the responsibilities that the position entails and I believe that I can uphold the high standards that have been set.

If elected, I hope to make the following changes which will make life easier for students:

-Rework the mentoring system, making sure that Year 2 and GEP students receive their mentor in the Autumn term, providing more time for peer tutorials and mentor-mentee communication

-Arrange revision tutorials with the aid of older (and wiser!) students at earlier dates allowing students to highlight their weakest topics earlier.

-Ruthlessly publicise the plethora of educational resources made available to students by societies.

Most importantly, I promise to be an ever willing port of call for all students to ensure that their academic opinions, concerns and grievances are heard and are acted upon.

As well as doing my utmost to make sure that the academic process is efficient, I look forward to helping out at ICSM events to ensure that they are all as successful as possible!
