Define a Need:

What is the problem you would like to solve?

The goal of this engineering project is to design and construct a prototype for someone to use for…

Research:

You need to list three resources you used to research your topic. These can be internet web-sites, articles you read, or people you have talked to. You need to type a paragraph explaining what you learned from each resource.

Resource #1:

Resource #2:

Resource #3:

Design Requirements:

How will your design be built?

What will your design do when it is done?

How will you test your prototype to make sure it meets your purpose?

Beginning Designs:

Draw the beginning designs of the prototype with labeled parts. These could be your brainstorming designs.

Final Designs:

This is where you present your designs. You should also tell what changes where made throughout the process of reaching your final prototype.

List of Materials:

Make a list of all the materials and equipment you use for building your prototype. Any materials that are measured should have the measurements listed. Don’t forget details.

Step-by-Step Procedure:

Write a step-by-step plan that you will follow to build your prototype. Write it in the order you want to follow. Be very descriptive in your writing.

Building the Prototype:

Write about the experience of building your prototype. What worked? What problems did you run into? Don’t forget details.

Test and Data Recording:

After you have built the prototype, it is time to test it. How did you test it?

What was happening during your test?

Analyze the Data:

Did the results of your test match your design requirements? Does it meet your purpose? Do you need to make changes? If so, what changes do you need to make? (If changes need to be made, make sure you keep detailed notes about those changes and what happens when you re-test. This is very important.)
Conclusion:

Here is what I learned from my engineering project:

  • Did your projectmeet your purpose?
  • Why or why not?
  • What did you learn from building the prototype?
  • What could you do to improve your prototype?
  • How does this prototype help people to understand the world better?

This is why my engineering project is important in the real world:
