My Digital Camera/Darkroom – 1st Class - IrfanView
(GEN 8/23/06)
This page will show you how I have IrfanView setup. If I start it from the Desktop I like it to open in the Thumbnail mode. You can do this by Left clicking on its icon, selecting Properties, and adding a space then "c:\a photo\ /thumbs" to the Target: where "a photo" is my photo folder on the C: drive. See example to the left. This is very effective when you put all of your images in folders that are contained in one specific folder, for me, a photo.
Next I like to "Fit images to window", so select that under "Display options" in the View menu. See at left.
Then there are many things that you can do to a group of images when you select "Batch Conversion/Rename" in the File menu. At left the "Set advanced options” Dialog Box is open showing the many things that can be done to a large number of images at one time. At left I have selected 20 images to be resized to 800X600. When I do this I make a new folder in the folder I'm working in and just add 1 to the name. Like here I would just make a new folder, "Doggers1" in the Doggers folder. It is also a great way to change all of the portrait type images (that are in landscape mode) in one folder to portrait type. You have to play with this and other options to see the power of IrfanView.
While viewing images in a folder the spacebar will take you to the next image and backspace will take you back, and keys also work. The Enter key gives you Fullscreen view and Enter again takes you back to the Program window, which you can resize.
