Thank you for your willingness to volunteer with MUST Christmas Toy Shop at this special time of year. MUST cannot do the things we do without volunteers like you.
Our Toy Shop is set up to mimic a small department store. We have many different positions available to work so there is something for everyone. We also would like to share in the love we have for serving and give the parents a shopping spree without the worries of money or hardship. With that being said, we ask that you follow these guidelines:
- Be on time for your shift – others are waiting on you
- Wear a RED shirt – as your elf uniform
- Smile and have the love of Jesus in your heart
- Come prepared to work your shift – wear comfortable shoes
- Sign the required release(s) (see below) and bring with you - turn in at the beginning of your shift
MUST Elf Duties
Toy Shop
Front Desk: Greet our clients. Cross reference client names against other organization lists. Must be able to explain to client that they (the client) are not permitted to shop due to being on another agency’s list. 2 per shift
Shoppers: Assist the parents while in our Toy Shop. Walk with the parent and explain the allotted number of items per child. Assist in picking out the gifts. (Adults are best for this position; parents don’t always like taking orders from a teenager)
6-8per shift
Check Out: Double-check that the shopper and the parent have gone to each section and have gotten the correct number of items. (This person MUST be strong enough to tell a parent that they can’t have an item as needed.) 1 - 2 per shift
Stockers and Sorters: Sort incoming toys and items – and keep shelves stocked with items. 2-4 per shift
Runners: Assist families to their cars with gift items (this is great for teens – they must travel in pairs).2 per shift
MUST volunteer policy is 10 years and older – however, with the Toy Shop we need to stress that the children must be old enough to understand that the toys they see are free to other families but they are not permitted to have any. The youth (ages 10-17) to adult ratio is 4 youth to 1 adult. Ensure when scheduling a youth group that you have the appropriate number of adults.
If for ANY reason you are unable to make your shift please notify your contact person as soon as possible. We need as much time as we can get to fill the shift, families are scheduled to come in during these times.
ELF POSITIONS
All shifts are on a first-come, first-serve basis, so please have a backup date and time in mind when selecting a shift. This year MUST Toy Shop will have an online selection for volunteer shifts. Once orientations are all completed you will receive an email with the sign up link to the email address you provided on the sign in sheet (please print clearly). Each location will have a different schedule.
Set Up Shift: During this shift we will be “creating” the shopping space, unpacking donated items, putting shelving together, unloading trucks/vans. This will be a very physical with lifting being required.
Shopping Shifts: During this shift we will have parents coming in every 10 minutes to shop in our Toy Shop. Refer to the above for the number of volunteers needed. Note that this shift overlaps with the next so that the 9:00 volunteers can train the 12:00 volunteers without causing a backup before leaving.
Restocking: During this time we are restocking shelves and unloading the daily delivery of toys (there are no appointments during this time). Children and teens are good for this type of work. Also if you have a smaller group and would like to volunteer for a short period of time – this is the slot for you.
Driver: With the increased number of families each year, we are looking for a few volunteer elves to side aside a day of the week to be our drivers. Some Pickups outside of MUST. However, most is picking up at a MUST location and delivering to the Toy Shop – to keep the flow of new toys coming.
Clean/Packing Up: During this Shift we will be cleaning up Toy Shop and packing all things away until next year. This will also be a very physical job with lifting being required.
