BUSINESS EDUCATION MARKETING

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Multi Media Design is designed to develop the touch method in operating keyboards to input data and produce business documents. Emphasis is placed on formatting skills for producing letters, reports, memorandums, tables, and presentations. Multi Media Design is a two semester class in length with one credit being earned. There are no prerequisites required.

PHILOSOPHY:

Students are expected to meet all course goals and apply decision-making, critical thinking, problem solving, organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills to real-life situations. The course integrates all academic areas into the curriculum.

Teaching techniques such as group discussion, lectures, labs, and independent study will be implemented. On hands, experience is essential to this course, as it will provide skills pertinent to employability.

Students will be involved in classroom activities, projects, and role-playing. Performance assessments, projects, class assignments, portfolio (notebook) check, employability skills, and tests will be used to assess the student’s progress.

COURSE GOALS:

Students will:

  1. Compare types of multimedia, including presentation, desktop publishing, Web page design, graphic design, digital photography, and digital video use in creating projects.
  1. Utilize a variety of input devices for digitizing multimedia information, including digital camera, video, scanner, Internet downloads, and graphic software.
  2. Use a variety of software and equipment to create, modify, and enhance multimedia projects.
  3. Demonstrate appropriate techniques associated with graphic design.

Examples:selecting, resizing, manipulating graphics, changing resolution, rastering, retouching photographs, correcting color, creating images

  1. Utilize precision tools to manipulate images.

Examples:deleting, moving, rotating, setting custom alignment guides, extracting and applying filters

  1. Utilize graphic design software to create business and personal publications.

Examples:newsletters, brochures, business cards, calendars

  1. Apply integration principles for importing scanned digitized graphics and text, tables, charts, and pictures into a publication.
  2. Utilize research results to interpret the impact of media and copyright laws on media publications.

Examples:ethical issues, authenticity

  1. Explain the differences among Web sites, Web pages, and Web browsers.
  • Identifying Web elements, including hypertext markup language (HTML) tags, headings, and body
  1. Develop interactive Web pages and sites using a variety of component formats, including HTML, HTML editors, and Web authoring programs.

Examples:components—guest book, forms, hit counter, marquees, hover button, transition, banner advertisements, navigational schemes

  1. Determine the applicable format for converting digital files.

Examples:Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG), Graphics Information File (GIF) Portable Network Graphics (PNG), Music Player 3 (MP3), Tagged Image File Format (TIFF)

  1. Apply knowledge of project management to ensure a quality product.
  2. Demonstrate the manipulation of digital image file sizing.
  3. Optimizing resolution for Web and print publications
  4. Determine career and entrepreneurial opportunities, responsibilities, and educational and credentialing requirements related to multimedia design.

INSTRUCTIONAL DELIVERY PLAN:

Daily assignments and projects will be submitted to the Google Classroom. Students are expected to enter the classroom and log into Google Classroom and begin their assignment. Students are expected to work individually (unless otherwise directed). Note: It is important that students Do Not Share his/her work or enter another student’s folder in the share drive. This is known as Plagiarism, which is a criminal offense. Should anyone be caught sharing/taking work, they will receive a Zero (0) for that assignment. Class assignments will consist of lectures, group discussion, and project presentations, with the topic of concentration on business and technology. Students who have a excused absence will be allowed to make missed assignments/tests. Those students who have unexcused will not be allowed to make up work due to the content standard schedule we have to follow.

CLASSROOM RULES, PROCEDURES, AND ROUTINES:

  1. Enter the room in proper dress code attire. There is ALWAYS going to be an assignment in Google Classroom to complete when you enter.
  2. Your paper should include your name and date. If your name is not on the paper you will receive a zero.
  3. All papers should be placed in the appropriate bin by the door.
  4. No passes will be given to go anywhere while I am teaching. Do not ask for a pass to the restroom when you enter. You will not leave the room without a pass.
  5. If you finish work early, DO NOT talk or bother other students who are working. You can redo an assignment, stay busy on the computer on APPROPIATE WEBSITES.
  6. Always log off your computer when leaving the room. Make sure chairs are pushed under the tables when you leave. If I clean up after you, you will lose 5 points per day.
  7. When announcements are on, you should remain seated and quiet.
  8. Do not play in the chairs or lean back in them. If you do, you will stand up and finish your work.
  9. If you need me, raise your hand. If you see me working with another student, please wait patiently for help.
  10. Sit at your assigned computer, do your own work, and accept responsibility for your workstation.
  11. Food, beverages, gum, and candy are prohibited in this classroom.
  12. Respect your peers, visitors, and teachers.
  13. Never use the Internet unless you are given permission.The Internet is a privilege that can be revoked! Never install or download any outside software or Internet materials. The Internet is an educational resource checking your E-mail or visiting “chat” rooms are prohibited.
  14. Report all computer problems to instructor immediately.

EQUIPMENT AND MATERIAL CARE:

Students will be using technological equipment throughout this semester. Each student is expected to act in a professional, business-like manner in the lab at all times. Students who find it necessary to deface equipment, books, or office furniture will be billed for such damages.

REQUIRED MATERIALS AND FEE:

Students are required to bring paper, a pen/pencil, and a GREAT attitude to class each day. A fee of $25.00 per student, the instructor provides all printer paper, printer supplies, software, disks/CDs, and workbook pages that each student needs for the entire semester. Because of various problems (i.e. viruses), that can result from the use of outside disks, the students must use the supplies provided. (No outside papers, software, or drives may be used at any time.)

FUTURE BUSINESS LEADERS OF AMERICA (FBLA):

An integral part of the business program will be the Future Business Leaders of America. FBLA offers students a chance to experience leadership and other fundamentals of success, while engaging in fun and rewarding activities. The goals of FBLA include:

  1. Developing competent business leaders
  2. Strengthening the confidence of students in themselves and their work
  3. Creating and understanding of the American business enterprise system
  4. Developing character and preparing for useful citizenship
  5. Encouraging members in the development of individual projects which contribute to the improvement of home, school, and community
  6. Encouraging scholarship and promoting school loyalty
  7. Assisting students in the establishment of occupational goals

All business students are strongly encouraged to join FBLA. Through this organization, students can develop a positive self-image while gaining occupational skills.

ASSESSMENT PLAN:

Grades for the course will be based on the following:

GradePerformance Standard

AIndependent learner: Apply learned skills and knowledge to work. Work independently of the teacher, produce quality work, meet the requirements for timed writings,demonstrates knowledge with a grade 90% or higher.

BSemi-independent learner: Apply most learned skills and knowledge to work. Work with little assistance from the teacher, produce above average work, meets most requirements for timed writings, and demonstrate knowledge with a grade of 80%-89%.

CAverage learner: Apply very little learned skills and knowledge to work. Work with some assistance from the teacher, produce average work, meets requirements for time writings, and demonstrates knowledge with a grade of 70%-79%.

DDependent learner: Apply very little learned skills and knowledge to work. Dependents on teacher for assistance, produce below average work, meet very few requirements for time writings, and demonstrate knowledge with a grade of 60%-69%.

FUnsuccessful learner: Apply almost no learned skills and knowledge to work. Dependents solely on teacher for assistance, produce poor work, rarely meet requirements for timed writings and demonstrate knowledge with a grade of

59% or below.

EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS GRADE:

Each week, it is possible to receive up to 20 points as an employability skills grade. This grade is based on habits and behaviors that you should exhibit on the job. For each infraction, your grade will be reduced by 3 points. Your grade may be reduced based on the following:

Tardiness

Dress (When required-Presentations)

Materials (You must bring all required materials)

Behavior

Cleanliness (You should leave your area clean)

Attitude/Respect

Using Time Wisely/Participation
