Dear Parent/Guardian,

This note gives you a “Preview” of what your child will be learning next week. Should you have questions, please call the school at 817-547-1900. We will be happy to assist you.

Language Arts/Writing-
Ø  Spell and decode words with common spelling patterns (final blends)
Ø  Explain how writers get ideas from personal experiences
Ø  Retell a story’s beginning, middle, end
Ø  Identify the difference between expository text (non-fiction) and fiction
Ø  Determine the author’s purpose for writing / Spelling-
Ø  Star: land, sand, past, fast, wink, blink
Ø  Circle: twist, drink, plant, sank, blink, clamp
Ø  Sight Words (week 5): all, were, we, when, your, can, said, there / Math-
Ø  Describe and identify a circle, triangle, square, and rectangle
Ø  Describe the attributes of each shape
Ø  Create sets of objects using tens and ones
Ø  Students will have their math facts quiz on Friday over 4+ if they made 100 on 3+ last Friday.
Science-
Ø  explain how the placement of the sun in the sky affects shadows
Ø  identify and discuss how light is important to everyday life / Social Studies-
Ø  identify the qualities of a leader and examples of leaders
describe voting as a method for expressing their opinion or for making a choice / Homework-
Ø  Read the SAME book in your folder for 20 minutes each night and sign your reading log.
Ø  Spelling and Sight Word Tests every Thursday.
Ø  Practice addition and subtraction math Facts to 12
