MSU NetID and Email / Pilot Services

MSU NetIDs allow access to Pilot / E-mail Services and MichNet Internet access. MSU NetIDs are assigned free of charge to all MSU students, faculty, and staff. All other MSU NetIDs are subject to fees. MSU faculty, staff and student MSU NetIDs include 11 MB of mail inbox space and 52 MB of AFS file space. All off-campus pilot accounts receive 11MB of mail inbox space and 4MB of AFS file space. Additional storage may be purchased in one megabyte (1 MB) and one gigabyte (1GB) increments.

A MSU NetID is a unique, alphanumeric identifier of two to eight characters and is generated automatically from the user’s name. Individuals may change their IDs for a fee. Organizations should choose an ID that is representative of the organization’s name. The Computer Laboratory reserves the right to reject any ID it deems inappropriate.

No CGI or UNIX access is provided on the MSUNet system. If you require UNIX access, please apply for a UNIX account (see For more information, contact a consultant at the Computing Service Center located in 306Computer Center, (517) 432-6200.

Paid services must be renewed annually. Services paid for with a University account are renewed automatically unless we receive a signed letter of termination. Users who pay by cash or credit card will receive renewal instructions (via e-mail) sixty and thirty days prior to expiration. Services on these accounts are automatically terminated if not renewed by the expiration date. NOTE: No refunds are given on terminated accounts.
