Attendees gave the program high marks. Ninety percent indicated they will make a change in the way they approach dealing with organizations they are members of. All members indicated that the information was useful.
Special thank you goes to the MSU Extension Leadership Area ofExpertise for their grant to help reduce the cost of the program

Members Make the Difference
It is exciting to see the number of 4-H members that gather at an annual event in Montmorency County. The roller skating party has been part of the 4-H members program for about 15 years. It is great to see 85 youth enjoy the day together while many leaders and parents share ideas for coming events. The.
impact of the day is shared with community / members that have partnered with Extension in supporting youth in Montmorency County. All members were awarded certificates commemorating their years in 4-H

Nutrition Class for People First Group
During their meeting on January 22, several members of People First of Montmorency County enjoyed nutrition and cooking class taught by Family Nutrition Program Associate Carol Klein. People First is a developmentally disabled group of adults.
The evening’s class started out with a review of the new food guide pyramid, MyPyramid. Everyone received a booklet filled with cooking tips and recipes. The first project was to make Trail Mix Bar mix in a jar. The participants layered the ingredients into quart jars, and attached a recipe to make the trail mix bars later. There were samples of the bars already prepared for all to try.
The group then made their own snack of Fruit Burritos. This turned out to be a messy but fun treat.
Thanks to Karen Fifield for offering assistance and all of the support staff in attendance.
Also thank you to The Knight of Columbus for the funding, which made this class possible

Ninth Annual Health Fair
Over 250 people attended this year’s highly successful Lewiston Health Fair. In conjunction with the Montmorency Advisory Council, the Montmorency & MSU Extension Office is pleased to co-sponsor this event with the St Francis Parish Health Nurse Program.
Thirty-one vendors (a new record) provided a large number of services, including cholesterol screening, health risk appraisals, blood sugar testing, blood pressure, blood typing, hearing testing, glaucoma screening, massage therapy, healing touch therapy, and reflexology. Also available was information on nutrition, emergency medical services, alternative therapies, hospice, durable medical equipment, home care services, dialysis services, and organ/tissue donation. Also one hundred-twenty-three critical flu vaccinations were given.
A great deal of educational material was distributed, and many attendees commented on the great value of the material. An informal survey indicated that 50% of those interviewed indicated that they would make a health related change in their lifestyle as a result of the Health Fair.
Several attendees stated that since they did not have health insurance; they had not had their blood pressure, glaucoma testing, cholesterol and many other important medical services done in years. For many of them, that is no longer the case. Our thanks to the numerous venders many of whom came from substantial distances in Northern Michigan (including Alpena, Petoskey, Traverse City, Grayling and Gaylord).
