Ms. VDM Physical Education 20/30 2016/2017

The aim of the physical education curriculum is to support students in becoming physically educated individuals who have the understandings and skills to engage in movement activity, and the confidence and disposition to live a healthy, active lifestyle.

The benefits of physical education include:

• increased fitness levels

• improved motor development

• tendency toward more active lifestyles

• positive correlation between the learning ofphysical and mental skills

• long term improvement in body image

Foundational Objectives:

Aquatics – Scuba Diving

Students will develop water-related skills in order to be comfortable in an aquatic environment.

Students will develop skills which will promote lifelong recreational activity.

Developmental Games and Sports - Tchoukball, Pickleball, Badminton, Handball, Volleyball

Students will develop skills that will enable them to be more comfortable in a games and sports environment.

Students will develop skills which promote lifelong pursuit of activity through games and sports.

Students will develop an appreciation of the contribution games and sports make to personal fitness.

Educational Gymnastics – balance beam, floor routine

Students will develop skills in order to be comfortable in an educational gymnastics environment.

Students will develop an appreciation of and respect for the educational gymnastics environment.

Fitness – strength training, core body activities, balance activities, agility drills, going to Fitness Focus in Saskatoon

Students will develop an appreciationof the role physical fitness plays in achieving and maintaining a personalsense of well-being.

Outdoor Pursuits – broomball, curling, skating, ultimate, football, golf, archery

Students will develop skills related to the outdoors which will make them more comfortable in an outdoorenvironment.

Students will develop skills which promote lifelong outdoor leisure pursuits.

Students will develop an appreciation of the contribution outdoor pursuits make to personal fitness.

Volunteering

Students will develop an appreciation for the role that young adults can play in the promotion of healthylifestyles within the community and school.

Rhythmics/Dance

Students will develop skills in orderto be comfortable in a dance or rhythmics environment.

Students will develop an appreciation of the contribution of dance or rhythmics to personal fitness.

Students will develop intuitive and imaginative thought.

-PE 20: 5 hours are school based and 5 hours are community based

-PE 30: 10 hours which are all community hours

-ALL HOURS MUST BE COMPLETED BY January 12th

RULES

1. LATES - YOU ARE CONSIDERED LATE IF YOU ARE NOT CHANGED AND READY TO PARTICIPATE IN CLASS, 2 MINUTES AFTER THE SECOND BELL HAS GONE!!

2. You are not allowed to drive your vehicle or ride in another person's vehicle to or from any PE

activity.

3. Even if you are sick... you must participate in PE. If you can come to school... then you can

participateas best as you can. ***Only with a doctor’s note will you be allowed to sit out for any

period of time!! If your illness is prolonged you may be asked to withdraw from the class!

4. After class you are expected to stay in the designated area until the bell rings.

5. Your cell phones must remain in your locker during PE class.

PE 20/30 Recommend Requirements

First let me say that a recommend is a privilegenot a right!!

Not complying with the following will result in you losing your recommend:

1. Maintain an 80% participation mark.

  1. Complete all required assignments and those assignments must be handed in on time.
  1. Maintain an average of 75% on the assignments and Terry Fox.
  1. Complete all of the Volunteer Hours by the required deadline of January 12th, 2017.
  1. All fees and forms in on time. (golf, PE Trip to Saskatoon, Scuba Trip and maybe a yoga fee)
  1. Having more than 5 lates.
  1. Riding in a vehicle to or from an activity outside of the school. We walk as a group to the rink.
  1. Being disrespectful to a substitute teacher.

If you meet all of the above requirements the next thing I look at is your 3 Beliefs towards the subject matter, your interaction with your peers and teacher(s).
