Art I

Extended Plan…

29 September ~ 3 October 2014

Drawing of a still-life of geometric forms shaded with realistic values: Due September 3rd.

1. Students will review the art elements they have learned: line, value, shape, and form.

2. Students will continue to learn definitions of the elements of art and how to apply them in tangible art

A. Students will learn how shading creates realistic values and textures which make flat shapes appear three-dimensional.(Worksheet)

3. Students will learn the new element SPACE.

A. How to create depth by incorporating the element space in an artwork. (Worksheet)

New Vocabulary: space, depth

4. Students will learn to draw a simple still-life of geometric forms.

A. How Space contributes to overall Compositionin an artwork.

B. How to create an interesting balanced composition.

C. How to draw geometric forms in 3-D perspective.

New Vocabulary: picture plane, composition, still-life

6 October ~ 17 October 2014

Drawing of a room in one-point perspective: Due ______

1. See Ms. Tilley’s Lesson Plans.

Drawing of a castle in 2-point perspective: Due: October 22nd.

2. Students will learn to create realistic textures applicable to drawing a castle, such as stone, grass, water, clouds, etc… (Worksheet)

3. Students will learn to set-up their paper for a 2-point perspective drawing, which includes:

A. Finding the center of their paper

B. Drawing a horizon line

C. Determining placement of both vanishing points

New Vocabulary: horizon, horizon line, vanishing points, parapet, battlements, portcullis, draw bridge, moat, arrow loops

4. Students will learn to draw castle towers, employing knowledge of space to determine their distance apart and relative sizes.

5. Students will learn to draw castle walls, employing knowledge of perspective to determine wall width as it progresses back in space.

6. Students will learn to draw the base of the towers in perspective.

7. Students will learn to draw arrow loops and/or a window/doorway with balcony/parapet, and a conical spire with a flying pennant.

8. Students will learn to determine the height of each row of stone blocks that make up their castle walls.

9. Students will learn to determine the length of each block of stone that make up their castle walls.

10. Students will learn to draw battlements in perspective.

11. How to draw a portcullis and draw bridge.

12. Learn how to draw a moat.

13. Add various other details. (See Castle Supplementary Materials)

14. Begin shading with realistic textures and values.
