Welcome to FUTURA: Structures!

Welcome to our new FUTURA students and welcome back to the returning fifth grade FUTURA students! Our theme for FUTURA this year is Structures. Parents, please email the FUTURA teachers if you work in a field related to structures, such as structural engineering, architecture, genetics, etc. We would love to use you as a resource this year, if you are willing to share.

Snack and Lunch

Our lunch time is 11:50 am – 12:20 pm each day. Students may have a working snack when they arrive at approximately 9:00 am. Due to nut allergies in our classroom, we require that snacks be free of nut products to avoid any possible risk.

Supplies

New FUTURA students are supplied with a binder and dividers. Returning 5th grade FUTURA students need to use the same binder and dividers for the second year. All students will be given a new composition notebook. We would greatly appreciate donations of the following items:

glue sticks

colored pencils

hand held pencil sharpeners

Ticonderoga pencils

straws

gallon size Ziplock bags

thin black Sharpies

tissues

baby wipes

markers

Communication

Students will bring their binders with them to class each week. In the front of the binder there is an “Extension Log” where students will be writing down assignments. These assignments are opportunities for the students to extend their learning outside of FUTURA class.

Parents, be sure to check the log weekly. Look for our quarterly newsletters on our FUTURA website and a copy will be given to your child. If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact your child’s FUTURA teacher directly:

Clinic and Medications

Jeremy Spicer is the Health Clinic Specialist for Madison’s Trust Elementary School. If your child has medical needs, please contact Mr. Spicer at 703-957-4470. Please remember that a physician completed and signed “Medication Form” must be provided before any medicine can be administered. Students are not allowed to deliver any medication (prescription or nonprescription) to school or return medication home. Parents or guardians must deliver the medicine to the clinic. All FUTURA students have an emergency form on file at Madison’s Trust Elementary. Please notify us of any phone number changes as soon as possible.

FUTURA Performance Assessments

FUTURA assessments will be sent home at the end of each semester.

Tardies, Absences and Early Dismissals

Please take the time to e-mail your child’s FUTURA teacher when he/she is going to be tardy, absent or need to be dismissed from FUTURA early.

Thank you so much for your support. We look forward to an Intellectually Stimulating Year!
