Mrs. Richeson’s 8th Grade Science Class Procedures

Please keep this paper for a reference as you should know these procedures which will help you have class run more smoothly.

You should follow all class rules every day:

1. Come on time, prepared (means all of the supplies you need) and clean up your table before you leave the classroom.

Many of you are NOT doing this very well!If you find yourself still putting your phone into your holder numbered pouch, you are spending too much time in the hall talking. If you are standing and visiting with a friend instead of doing your OA—no matter what type it is—you are not getting to work fast enough. 8th grade science is more challenging than 7th and you will need to work harder if you want to earn the “A” grade. I try to make all information accessible and as simple as I can for you----you STILL need to listen and do your homework or your grade will not turn out as high as you hope---it requires action and persistence on your part.

2. Listen WHENEVER the teacher is talking.

I am having a HUGE problem with this and I find it very disrespectful and unnecessary. From now on I will remind students with a demerit for each broken rule. I will send home an email and/or a written note on the 2nd demerit. That note will be expected to come back to me signed by your parent or the 3rd demerit will automatically go onto your class record. On the 3rd demerit, your citizenship will go down.

3. Please allow all students to learn.

When there is a lot of talking that is not planned for and that talking is not geared towards our learning concepts for the day, it is unnecessary and wastes learning time. The more you learn in class and the more you get accomplished in class means less time on homework---I am sure most of you will agree. Please stop distracting your neighbor with talking that can wait for another time.

4. Wasting class time is not allowed.

If every student spent his time working at school on what he/she was asked to work on, your homework time at home would decrease. When you distract another student, they lose precious and valuable, usable time also. STOP wasting class time when it is given to you.

5. Homework is due on time.

Many of you know that late work takes a 30% cut in points. Too many of those latesand your grade will drop---such a sad event when you could have had such a great score. Please do your school work and homework on time and then----do not carry it around with you and forget to hand it in….such a loss of unnecessary points!!! 

If you do not understand a concept—ASK. I make a point of asking the class if everyone understands before I move on---that is your CUE to ask questions so I can help you understand. You can arrange by talking to me to come early or stay late---but ask because sometimes I have prior obligations that I must fulfill but I would be very willing to help you---UNLESS you were wasting class time and that is not OK.

Another note of interest:

My blog is made to enable you to click on any 7th grade PPT to review old material and I am adding 8th grade PPTs all the time so you can keep updated on what we are learning through the year. You should be looking at old material and the new so you do not forget.

I do not put many worksheets on the blog as I use a book that had pre-made worksheets that go along with the book/s that I have you use in class. Most answers are easy to find and the books are an easy read. Just be sure that you READ the required and assigned sections.

I have set up a place for students so they can find most of what they would need if they miss a day or require some certain materials. I will explain this to you tomorrow and show you the set-up. I have added and changed a few things for your convenience.
