HONORS GEOMETRY

CLASS GUIDE AND PROCEDURES

TEXTBOOK:

We will be using handouts this year and the Big Ideas Geometry textbook as a reference. At least a 2”

binder is needed to store handouts. A textbook will be issued by Mr. Harbersupon request. It is to be

kept at home or in your locker. Classroom copies will be provided when needed in school.

**CALCULATOR:

The school will no longer issue calculators. A calculator will be provided for use in the classroom

only. You may wish to purchase a calculator to use at home; TI-84 Plus is

recommended. There are many online versions you can download and use at home as well by

searching for Texas Instruments, meta-calculator, or free calculators.

DAILY AVG:

ASSIGNMENTS/HOMEWORK/QUIZZES:

Class assignments, homework, and quizzes fall under Daily Grades. An assignment is given with each

lesson. If not finished in class, it becomes homework. Unless told otherwise by the teacher, it is due

the next time class meets. Homework will always be awarded a grade. It could be a completion

check, graded, spot checked, or awarded a grade of 100 automatically. “Extra Credit” is awarded

when time is allowed to do homework in class, and you complete it during the class period (or

sometime during the day). Ten points will be added to a paper completed during the class period the

same day it was assigned and turned in to me. Five points will be added to a paper completed the same

day it was assigned and turned in to me after school. LATE HOMEWORK is NOT allowed in any

Math class!!! A grade of zero will be given if homework does not accompany you to class. The

lowest homework grade will be dropped each six weeks.

TEST/PROJECT AVG.:

At least 3 tests will be given during a six weeks period. They are cumulative, so material

from previous units will also be on these tests. At least 3 tests will be given during a six weeks period.

The last test of each grading cycle will be entered twice into the gradebook, and the lowest of all test

grades in that grading cycle will be dropped, excluding project grades. Six weeks tests are no longer

required. However, if a third test is needed, it will be given on Tuesday during the sixth week of the

grading period. Projects are assigned regularly and count as test grades. Late projects are not

accepted! Make arrangements for your project to be in class, even if you are not! The due date is

written on the project description page.

QUIZ AND TEST PROCEDURES:

No questions will be asked nor answered during a quiz/test. You must remain quiet until all students

in the room are completed with the quiz/test. You MUST FINISHthe test by the end of the class

period, as you will not be allowed to return later to finish. Anything not finished will be counted

incorrect. If absent on a quiz/test day, you can make up the quiz/test in the Testing Center on Tuesday,

Wednesday, or Thursday afternoons, however, you will only have one week from the quiz/test date to

make it up. If a quiz/test is not made up within the week, a grade of zero will be placed in the

gradebook.

2” BINDER:

The curriculum consists of lesson pages and assignments. Notes/lessons and assignments will be

handed out to you and kept in your binder. All of the assignments and exams are keyed to those

notes/lessons. As a result, your binder becomes a textbook which is an essential part of the course.

The cover or first page of the binder should be a coversheet with the following information centered:

Name

Honors Geometry

Class Period

Mrs. Rerich

Behind the coversheet, insert the class guide/procedures handout. You may want to use tabs: Notes-

Assignments/Quizzes-Tests-Projects-Other.

SEMESTER EXAM:

At the end of the third and sixth six weeks, acumulative exam will be given covering the

entire semester. It will count 1/7th of the semester average. If the semester exam is exempted,

there will be no grade in this category.

MAKE-UP WORK:

Make-up work is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY!!! If you are absent from class for any reason (including

school sponsored events), you are responsible forgetting what you missed from the Absence Folder.

You have one day for each day you are absent to make up the assignment. If you were in school the

day the assignment was given, you are responsible for turning it in at the beginning of the class the day

you return. If you missed school the day a quiz or test was given, you will take the quiz or test within

a week of your return, otherwise, you will receive a zero. If you know you will be absent, let me know

prior to your absence. If you become ill and would like your assignments, call the office and ask to

have your homework sent to the office. This way you will at least know what we did in class.

EXTRA HELP:

Extra help can be obtained after school. I will also be available for help in the mornings.

Please do not fall behind!!! Keep up with your work! If you have questions, please come in for help!
